I use just about every trick from the "Impromptu Miracles" chapter in CardShark. "Blockbuster" and "4 to the 1" are my number one killers.
The "Phantom Card", "Pick Up On Southstreet", and "Time and Time Again" from the "Presentational Showpieces" are also big time killers. When it comes to gambling scams, "The Cross" is an excellent impromptu trick that requires minimal preparation. "De Ju Poker" from "Scams and Fantasies", in my opinion, is worth the price of the book. Ditto for "Pass the Garbage" PS: I've only had the opportunity to perform "Time and Time Again" once. You almost need to have the proper conditions. |

The only ones I actually ever performed are Zen Master and Twisting the Case. The latter is a superb ending to Twisting the Aces. The former kills for a parlor show.

There are so many from his collection that are great. At the moment some top ones for me would include:
-Appointment in Samarra( I found the same wallet last year at a convention) -The Dream Card -The One Handed Poker Deal, this is a great trick using a one handed faro -The Cross

I enjoy Darwin Ortiz's takes on the classics: his enhancements always seem to intensify the originals. Some favorites: Triumph (A Triumph and A Talk), Time and Again (Cardshark), and Cannibal Holocaust (Scams and Fantasies). Also, for it's elegant simplicity, Deju vu Poker (Scams and Fantasies).

I actually love all of Darwin Ortiz's routines.
Except one. Beat The Dealer. You can find it in Cardshark (on page 146, I believe) and on one of his DVDs. Mike |

Great to see so many different routines here. Myself and Vlad were having a conversation recently, that due to things like Ammars ETMCM videos, a performer gets well know for an effect that might not be their best material. For example, mention Roy Walton, and oils and queens cones up. Great effect, but try out something like travellers in time! Bro John Hammon-twins, Peter Kane-jazz aces. You get the idea.
Darwin ortiz has some seriously genius stuff published, but sadly for a lot of people, jumping Gemini is the one associated with him. Wonder how he feels about it? Still, I guess a lot of the strongest material around might not belong on an 'easy to master' collection? I'll be checking out some of your recommendations now though!! K |

I enjoy all of his routines as well. One that I think is really fun to watch and perform is Fast Company. Here's a link to the performance:

Appointment in Samara is my personal favorite, although I have worked out a different method that doesn't require the Himber wallet and envelope, yet has just as strong an impact. The reaction of the girl in the video shows how powerful the effect is, and her strong reaction is pretty much what you can expect, especially if you pick a female assistant who is slightly superstitious and will intensely want to avoid getting that fated "death card." Just be sure she is in good health to begin with and has a good sense of humor about such things.
Magically yours,

I really love appointment in Samarra too, I love the story line, and the fact that people do know what will happen, and at the same time are afraid of seeing it happen anyway
