Any cool tricks with the rainbow deck? Other than in the little booklet.

I guess you're talking about the Randy Wakeman booklet. IMO, there are a couple very good CC Deck routines in that booklet that are designed for rainbow decks.
But... I'm wondering when the USPCC is going to print their Bicycle Rainbow Deck? I've heard rumours. Robert |

Strangers' Gallery by John Bannon. Add the rainbow deck as a finish. See Smoke & Mirrors page 68.

Bicycle making a rainbow deck would be stupid on their part.

Yes, I would also like to know why it would be "stupid" - usually when someone makes such a statement, they back it up with some type of rationale.
I do think, however, that it would make no sense on Bicycle's part to do so (make a Rainbow Deck), because they're not into making decks for magicians, just for card players. Magicians and magic dealers are the ones who make deals with USPCC to produce special decks, etc. Just my 2 cents, Kaylan |

Bern, my contrary lil' Hong Kong based amigo, and Kaylan here in California, let me explain this and let us see if anyone goes 'oh...there is a no #@%#@$er". When playing card games one doesn't want the opposing players to know or even have a clue as to what cards one is holding. If a deck of cards is made up of various color backs as you indicate then it would be a simple thing to know that the aces are red and purple while the dueces are brown and green and so forth. Players won't play, if they are smart, with a deck that even is worn to the point where a high card could be identified by smudges for example. Thus producing a rainbow deck would be stupid, an act of business ignorance, for anyone to produce for normal sale because only a dim person would purchase said deck for any other than magical application. If further detail is required as to why in a game of, for example, poker, the other players knowing your card is not good let me know, thank you.

LOL Steve! I think we all understand now.
As for rainbow deck routines, Alex Elmsley shows an interesting one on the Tahoe Sessions 1 video, I believe it's called Dazzle. The whole video (of course) deals with packet tricks, and Dazzle is the only one using several cards of odd backs if I remember correctly. I don't own the video so I can't check it. So, you might be happier buying the trick on it's own (it's available several places). The strong side of Dazzle is that you can do any number of back changes with it. He actually toyed with the thought of doing a whole evening of just this trick, to annoy people at the magic castle. Michael |

Your explanation is basically what I was saying, too in my previous post - I agree with you - thanks for explaining your "stupid" comment Until Bicycle starts making decks specifically for magicians (uh-huh - like when the Warriors will win an NBA championship), a Rainbow deck won't happen, but if they keep making different colored backs, etc. and Ellusionist keeps doing what they're doing, pretty soon all of us card collectors will each have 54 Rainbow Decks! :) Kaylan |

Greetings All;
A rainbow deck has been put together using all white bordered cards that have been printed at one time or another by the U.S. Playing Card Co., plus a few hand made white border cards that are unique. This deck has already been put in the mill so to speak and will be printed by U.S. Playing Card mid to late December as of last checking. This deck will be a virtual feast for magicians wanting rainbow style backs or just to use it for Frank Garcia's Rainbow Deck trick. Steve to answer your comment, I agree, it would not make sense for them to make this deck for the lay public, but this deck is being printed as a special order for magicians. Certain cards have certain backs, and there are other things that are being worked on now with the various compilations so that a book or dvd could be made available to be packaged with the deck when it is ready. I think everyone will be pleasantly happy with this deck. Some of the designs are from as far back as the 20's. I am not at liberty to disclose anymore about the pack than what I have mentioned above, but I am waiting patiently for this pack to be shipped as are a couple others who were in on the design and layout. All the Best Marty |

That's great news Marty! Please keep us informed...
PS...maybe you could have it called something other than the "Rainbow" deck? Maybe have a contest for its name? Kaylan |

Greetings Kaylan;
Not a bad idea. I will pass that along to the party who is putting up the money to have this deck printed as it is his call, but I think it is a good idea. Steve, it is not a top secret type of thing, nor is it mysterious, it is just a pack of cards where the backs need to match up to certain faces for various tricks to be done with them. In the long run, those who do not use the full deck for the Garcia effect, will probably pull the cards out to compile their favorite packet effects and that is what the deck was designed for. We wanted to give as many options to the magician as possible. That is why certain backs had to be made as they did not exist, yet every card in this pack looks 100% legit. It has taken quite a while to put this together, but the time spent will be worth it when the pack hits the market. All the Best Marty |

For magical use I can see it. For the normal use...ain't happening. Say, are their any other card companies in the US than USPC?

Greetings Steve;
Yes as a matter of fact there are three currently that will do custom work. The problem with them is that their card stock and printing would not match that of the U.S. Playing Card Co. That would not be too bad except try to convince a room full of magicians to change to another brand of cards. It has been done in the past with Arco brand cards and magicians used them for a while but quickly went back to Bikes and their associated brands (Tally-Ho, Aristocrat, etc.) I for one am just happy to get my hands on any deck that is different that has been printed by U.S. Playing Card, no matter if it has been printed for a magic company or for the general public. I think this new Bicycle-backed one will look more 'authentic'... |

They are going to assemble a deck, it is said, for MAGICIANS, not a production deck. To make a rainbow deck for regular sale would be stupid...wanna know why?

OK Steve and Bernardo...howzabouta truce, OK?
Anyway...Marty don't ask me why but I've been giving this some thought and I think I came up with a good alternate name for the "rainbow" deck, and I'd like for you to suggest it to the person who's making them up with USPCC. The Spectrum Deck. What do you think? :) Kaylan |

Greetings Steve;
there seems to still be some confusion about the printing of the rainbow decks. The decks are being printed by the U.S. Playing Card Co. as a single order for one company. That company is footing the bill for the full run. They will not be sold to the general public in Walmart, Target or any other public place. Anyone can order a special deck run from U.S. Playing Card, all you need is the backing to pay for a production run of 10,000 decks. All the Best Marty |

I'm not confused Marty. I realize it isn't a standard production run.
