I've just received my 'Original Kolossal Killer' pamphlet yesterday. Boy o Boy am I disappointed.
Maybe I'm missing something but this is no trick at all. I think the trick was on me for buying it. I am tempted to believe this one of those scam items you read about. Just buy it and if you think it's a dud well then you cant perform it right. I realize it all in the presentation, but at least let there be a trick or something. C'mon - someone PM me if there were some pages left out of my instruction manual. I'm glad I only paid $20 bucks and am tempted to send it back. I will be glad to retract my statments if someone could enlighten me. Maybe I'm just a blockhead. Terry |

I can see several postings coming your way all saying something simular to, "it's what you make of it".
I've had my KK for about a month. Yes, it can kill and yes it can be a reputation maker. It's potentially that good. But since we truly "perform" magic rather than "doing it", the potential of an effect like KK is in the hands of the owner/performer. Having said the known element, I'll add that I applied myself to getting comfortable with the physical workings of the effect, then built up a tight presentation. If you approach it in the frame of mind that it really does have great potential, it comes across in your delivery. (obviously the opposite is also true) With the right mind set, I've blown away two sets of audiences. On one occation I took advantage of someone at a staff meeting quoting a credit card commercial from television. Out of the blue a guy loudly asked somebody in the group, "what's in your wallet?". At the opposite end of the table I answered, "your card". The room got quiet and one person said, "his what?" I repeated my answer and then proceeded to go into the full blown effect. The impromptu opportunity coupled with the power of the effect created an amazing response that felt electric! The second time I used an "invisible deck" approach, having one person take the cards from the box, choose the red or blacks, hand those to another person who picks the suit, and passes those to the third person who fans out the unseen cards for a forth person to select a specific card. The audience involement with the killer ending was a perfect combination. Yes, it can be a reputation maker! (And yes, I look forward to using the out as often as possible) And as corny as it sounds Terry and as many times as you may hear this from other members; it really is up to you. |

Hi,
I don't think it is that bad. I am going to try it out soon. I have heard good comments about it. And I saw Larry Becker performing it(not the original, but the marketed version) on one of his videos. It looks good and it is used by some top mentalists. You have to know exactly how to put the words, and that is how the best mentalism effects are accomplished. I also saw another effect perfromed by L. Becker(I forgot it's name) where the audience gets an extra mental effect which the spectator on stage doesn't even realise of because from his point of view it is something without meaning. I can't say anymore except that this is also accomplished by means of words correctly put together to mean different things from the different points of view of the audience and the spectator. Think about it and give it a try. Hope this helps. Ivan
Yours,
Ivan |

Sorry to hear your disappointed.
I have kept mine there and ready to go from the first time i prepared it. I have been careful not to overdue it but every time i use it on someone or small grouip it has always gone over VERY well. Well, as the saying goes...you cant please everyone or is it, different strokes for different folks ?? Oh well, you know what i mean. Better luck with your next purchase and maybe you could throw out a query here or do a bit more research before you buy something? GlenD

You need to read through several times. Prep your "deck" and do it like the instructions say. You purchased an effect. It must be done, the way it has been instructed. It is not a prop, like a bill tube or cups and balls that you can use, to do it "your way"
When you understand this idea, you will never be disapointed in your purchases. BTW, it realy does kill if you follow the instructions, and say the words exactly the way they are printed.
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.

hello Terry...
I found the follow-up documentation "Killer Konceptions" better than the original KK...various performers adding their own ideas and concepts. But, like all magic, it is the "singer, not the song" that matters! If you like mentalism and want to talk, email me on geoff_0@hotmail.com. Do not dispair, if I can offer support, help, and advice, I am only too pleased...there is a LOT of GOOD stuff out there! wulfie |

Hi Terry:
Well, most of us definitely know the feeling that we've been "had." I have to say in this case however, that I couldn't disagree with you more. I can understand how someone might find KK quite different from what they expected, but I can only say that I use this effect regularly and it has never failed to stun my audience. (I don't think I've ever perfomed it for less than 20 people at a time, with the exception of my wife!) As for the followup manuscript, Killer Konceptions, I wasn't too impressed with it overall. But there was ONE idea, "Kenny Butler's Premonition Suggestion," that I began using and it absolutely perfected the illusion so I suppose I have to say that I got my money's worth there, also. Give it a try, exactly as presented in the original manuscript, and see what happens. You've got nothing to lose at this point! Good luck! |

Terry,
I can understand your sentiments as they are similar to mine when I first got KK. Because there were so many good comments on this newsgroup, however, I decided to go ahead and try it out. I was very pleasantly surprised at the reaction I received. I try to keep the extraneous contents of my wallet to a bare minimum, to keep the wallet as thin as possible. There are ways you can decrease the number of cards in your wallet even further (e.g. - only one suit), but I haven't felt that to be necessary. I do an invisible deck type routine, also. I tell them at the start, though, that I am going to go through a series of instructions and that by the way I word the instructions, I will make them select the card I want them to select. I tell them that they really have no choice in the matter, that even if they try to trick me and pick a card out of the blue without following the instructions, that that is all part of my plan. Of course, all that is absolutely hooey, but it gets them thinking and they are amazed when they select the card I've led them to. Especially if they miss the exact card -- they seem to be even more amazed when I show them the back. This trick is the one with which I've had the most fun with coming up with my own routine. (I'm sure others must do something similar, but I've not read or heard of it from someone else, yet.) Kollosal Konceptions is on my Christmas list. I'm excited to see what else I can do with it. |

Hi Terry,
I, personally, think that this effect is incredible. I have had some amazing reactions from people when performing it. What could be more amazing than someone freely predicting a card and then you pull that card from your wallet? (where a whole pack of cards cannot possibly fit). I think that when you get to use the 'alternative' ending it makes the effect *even stronger*. You are right that there are no 'clever moves' or gimmicks and that a lot relies on setting the believability that you can predict a spectators thoughts so, in that sense, there is no 'trick' but, to me, that makes the effect all the more valuable as it can be used any time, anywhere. I know lots of magicians carry this one with them all the time. |

i always have this set up in my wallet. when i read the manuscript the first time i said "this can possibly ever fool somebody!" then i tried it a few times. once i got good at the physical workings of the trick, oh man, did it ever kill. i am still blown away that it works so well. i have never had anyone "question" the trick.
i don't know if you have tried it so many times. my only advice is get the working down flawlessly, then develop a wicked pater and the effect is great! |

I just viewed Becker's tape with version 3
of KK. Not knowing what preceed this, does anyone feel that there is too much going on, too confusing, too many gimmicks(wallets, cards, envelopes, computer printed labels). I've heard audiences comment(on other effects) that have too much "stuff" that they are confused, and who cares anymore. Vernon said something about the simplicity of an effect.
MAGIC HAPPENS !

When you get this right it totally destroys. I've had people throw the card back at me in shock, someone else just sat saying 'you put that card in my mind didn't you ?'. I consider this one of the strongest pieces of closeup mentalism that I own.

Thanks everyone for the support. I have to say that impressed with the reaction to my opinion of this effect.
In all honesty, I did not setup the effect and run it through, I merely read the worksheets several times and went through it in my head. I think I will go ahead and setup the deck, wallet, and routine and give it real shot. I will definately post a follow-up after I have done this(probably after the holidays now). Terry |

I just got my kolossal killer manual. And eventhough I devised the method before, the script that Knepper provides is fantastic.

My experience with this effect is that it floors everyone, especially with the alternate ending. I am fortuante in the sense that I normally don't carry a wallet so it is not cumberome for me to have this in my breast pocket. In the same token I am unfortunate that I don't carry a wallet because I leave it at home.
I would suggest that you take the time to make it up and then try it out a few times, play it like it is written and you will be suprised at the reactions that you receive. We are in an era overrun with disappointing manuscripts and overproduced tricks, and while this may be playing off other effects I have found it completely worthwhile. oliver |

I, too, was skeptical, but try it for awhile. I've gotten some great reactions with it from laypeople and magicians alike. It's also a great out when you lose control of a card. Nice to have a plausible backup.

I love mental effects and I must say KK is one of my favorites!
The first time I tried it was for my wife...it floored her and that's hard to do. Terry, set-up the wallet, practice and try it. I guarantee you'll end up loving it! Gerard |
