Stephen, as someone who thinks you're a great guy, I'm urging you to send a copy of the book to Banachek. I was uncomfortable when I read your method and became more uncomfortable when I read your post above. The method looked and read too obviously similar, and I was sure the presentation was at least inspired by Banachek's. Surely you ought to include an acknowledgement, if not a debt, to PK Touch and Banachek's work.

Even more worrisome is your method description of Shoe Levitation. It reads almost precisely like the text instructions from Ellusionist. Perhaps I have an older copy of your book; there is no reference to a curb. Is there a Version 2 of *Body Tricks*?

Colleagues,

I get every couple of days a magic manuscript to read. There is lots of trash and mediocre material among it. Stephen Ablett's three ebooks are an exception, they are excellent. Body Tricks is just one of the three. They are very well researched, well written and worth every dollar. Much cheaper than other books or ebooks of similar quality.

I guarantee you that in a few years Stephen will be among the famous well known big guys and you will look back on his first ebooks and say "Yeah, you could already see then he had what it takes."

A few will say "Oh yes, Chris is selling his ebooks, so of course he will only say good things about them." In fact, it is exactly the other way around. Because I know the quality of these ebooks and know they are unique in many ways, I am offering them on my website Lybrary.com.

For me "Body Tricks" is among the best ebook releases this year, without a doubt. And for $15, this is an increadible bargain.

I will add that one can never do enough crediting the ones that came before. Stephen could probably do more on that side. But knowing what other very well known authors have put out without crediting, Stephen has done a good job and has put in a good amount of research.

Best,
Chris....

Chris, I got my copy from Stephen not long after he announced it here -- this was before you began carrying it. So my copy may differ from the current edition.

Chet,

Yes, there are differences between the current version and the one you got earlier on. Stephen sent me an updated version a few days ago. But as far as I can tell the changes concern one effect only.
Nevertheless, I see a dedicated professional magician who put a lot of work into his ebooks. For some the crediting might be too little, for others it will be sufficient, and most will not care. I do care and I think it could be improved, but accusations of stealing or ripping somebody off are not appropriate here, in my opinion.

Best,
Chris....

Chris, you're right in that the updated version changes wording enough to satisfy me AND does a better job of crediting. You're also correct in that far too many magicians have done a far worse job of crediting and borrowing. No accusation of stealing was intended; I've seen far too many examples of simultaneous inspiration in the fields of sf and comics. (Anyone remember the Doom Patrol/X-Men co-incidence?)

In the spirit of trying to get everyone to lighten up a bit... especially as I suffer more than most from typochondria...

Maestro Banachek posts:

Quote:
"He simply re-released a paper that was released by Milbourne Christopher first. But it was actually a fake psychic called Achille D'Angelo in the 17 century who released the first version."

Also, if one wants to be accurate on the history, Achille did not release a version. He claimed to be real. People came to him to be healed. Christopher watched him, he would perform the "touch" in a small room with only a few people. His "Time/Space moment came when he fell into the person by accident as he "tipped" over a light cord. Very different. It seems that some are taking my words from my book, assuming, and not reading the original text by Christopher. Achille claimed to be able to touch people with his power. Not have others do it.

While I'm sure that this is simply a typo, Milbourne Christopher could not have watched Achille do this trick if Achille was, as you post, a 17th century psychic. I met Milbourne Christopher in 1975 or 76 in Chicago and for him to have watched Achille he would have to have been something on the order of 300 years old when he walked into the Treasure Chest (where Marlo, Don Alan and Okito all worked before I came on staff there at the magic counter).

So, somewhere, there's a typo in there, my friend. I figured that as long as everyone else was picking nits...
and I just had a new wit knitted...

Either way, the trick is great. Banachek deserves the credit for his interpretation of the effect, which has become a classic of magic.

Animal Aura in my book is just my interpretation, but it doesn't touch upon his version, and while mine may include a few improvements, and alternative presentations, its still just a nugget of information compared to the full steak that Banachek has released.

But I hope everyone after reading these posts, understands why this along with many other tricks have not been credited, since there is no proper person to credit. I could add a page for each trick with the various people who have performed them, and taken credit for them, but that would ruin the book and lose track of the magic. The book is their to help readers learn new tricks, not to teach them a history lesson.

Banachek, I would be proud to send you a copy of the book, as one of the higher-elite magicians, it would be an honor to have someone like yourself look at my work. Just let me know where to send it.

I am in the process of making a DVD of body tricks, which will be shot in October and released for Christmas. I'm still in the process of selecting which tricks to include in regards to difficulty and such. If its okay with you, I'd love to include animal aura / touches to make the set complete. Especially since it hasn't been released (officially anyway) on video before. Let me know what you think: ku7uk3@yahoo.com

Steve

P.s. It was released poorly on Johnathon Royles 'Hypno Tricks' DVD.

P.s. I'm still open to adding new effects. If anybody has any tricks which you know would fit the collection, please let me know.
Along with alternative methods, such as the 'unliftable trick', of which there are numerous versions of the same trick.
