Can someone direct me to buying a nice, high quality ball and vase? I don't want to spend several hundred dollars for the rolls royce, but would like to get nice, solid quality, comparable to the Johnson coin products for example.

Most of the ones you see nowadays are junk. When Jim Riser makes them, they are fantastic.
Sometimes you will see some that are made by Khin of Cambodia. These are nice. They have ping pong balls in them. You have to find the old style ping pong balls to go with them though.

George at Viking used to make a large and small model. I've not seen either in person, but have read positive comments about the larger one.

I have both the large and small versions from Viking Magic. The products perform as advertised and are beautiful to behold. The routine has extra features incorporated within it that a standard ball vase can not match. I take my hat off to you George.
