All these votes for David Stone - Real Secrets of Magic, and only a couple of US web based magic shops are stocking it!. Hank Lee and MyMagic. I am surprised so few are stocking it.
I just ordered it ! |

Hey why don't you really vote, adding the points to each dvd, start to make list
COINONE DAVID STONE VOL1 DAN TONG DANIEL GARCIA etc.... and really add those points and at the end of the year find out who's the best DVD 2006. That would be the first time it really work this way. I think the magic Café team could try to organise this survey. |

The coolest dvd of the year came with an issue of Geni. I think it was called Pallagenesis.

For me a toss up between david stone and fancy a pot of jam. However with a few months to go, I suspect the live at the jailhouse dvds will make up some ground on these two by the end of 2006

My vote goes to John Mendoza's 3 DVD set entitled, "My Best." I probably have more than 200 DVDs and tapes in my collection. Some are good. Some are bad. Many contain fluff and filler or routines and/or sleights which are the latest fad and that are not practical in "real world" settings for paying customers. There are only a precious few DVDs/videos that I personally consider staples in magic which contain routines that have and will continue to withstand the test of time. An example of such a dvd/video would be the Don Alan The Greater Library Video/DVD.
I will now include John Mendoza's My Best DVD set (as well as his Live and Personal DVD) as part of this elite category. His routines are polished and refined from his more than 25+ years of performing these routines for paying audiences. That is a very important point. Many routines are developed by people who develope them in a vacuum and have only performed them in a few, isolated and sterile conditions. Mr. Mendoza has developed these routines in the trenches of performingthem before paying audiences for 25+ years. He knows what an audiecne wants and expects from a magician. His routines are meat and potatoes but without the potatoes. Mr. Mendoza's routines are solid and entertaining which will withstand the test of time. These are classic effects and routines that I have and will continue to study and refer back to. Highly recommended. Michael

I was hard pressed to vote for just one DVD when there are different categories of magic.
For close-up walk around I vote for David Stone's "The real Secrets of Magic Volume 1" For stage I vote for Arthur Tivoli in "Tivoliland" For a single card trick on a DVD I vote for Wayne Houchin "Indecent" |

I'd say,
-Silver Dream by Justin Miller -Coin One by Homer Liwag -La Famiglia by The Godfather Vinny Marini -Catapult by Platt I pick these, some because of their fine production and teaching, some because of their fine simplicity and great ideas...All doable stuff, high-level and street-level. Also because nearly all these guys are on this Café and offered continued assistance with their work to anyone that asked. There are a few others that are also very good, but these were some of the very best and generated tons of interest and interaction on the Café and the world at-large.

EXAMINING THE THUMBTIP DVD by DeCova. What is amzing is that the best part is not in the trick section, but in the discussion afterword...
