I think the difference is that DigiSelect is a smaller company that caters to stage show professionals. We listen to our customers and develop our products to their requirements. 90% of our customer request, so far, has been delivered into our product with in several months.
We definitely applaud ingenuity. That is what our company, Interfaze Technologies, is all about. So if you can customize a product that is cheap or free to do what you need to do and look professional while doing it then you should take advantage of that. A good example for the beginner: You can embed wave files and MP3 songs into a power point and use the Power Point slide as you cue cards. Then use a standard presentation remote from the stage to control. Very Easy! |

I have read, with a lot of interest, all the posts on this topic and I am sold on the ICue2 (squared). I also think I am preet adept on surfing the wed but I will be darned if I can find a wedsite for Virtual Soundman or the ICue2 or anything like it. I know a lot of the posts go back a few years. Are they out of business??? Anything you can do to direct me somewhere to buy one would be appreciated.

Not ONLY are Virtual Soundmen out of business, they ripped a lot of people off for the money people paid for products and the deposits on other products that were never delivered. |

He was offering some spare parts for sale, but said that he "will no longer be able to reproduce any more iCue or their accessories, or provide much of any tech support, as the VSM corp. no longer exists". That's the last I heard, and may explain why you cannot find a website. I don't know if someone else will be making them or what. Given the twists and turns I've experience with the company over the past year+, I make no claim to have any inside information or anything. Anyway, I'm still using my iCue2 for shows and it continues to perform well for me. It seems if I ever have a problem, I'll need to find someone else to fix it, but so far, no problems! |

On one hand, I wish somebody else would start making this product again, but on the other, I'm glad to have one of only 3 iCue2 SoundBox PA units in existence. It's an incredible unit, and really is the only thing you would need for anything from a birthday party (it is rechargable) to 300 people in an outdoor setting. Built-in wireless mic combined with the 3-level amplification system and the iCue2 (actually it's the mIcue/mini iCue2 system) that's built into it make it an all-around workhorse. That being said, it's unfortunate that this product isn't available anymore due to VSM being out of business. Wish I could find someone to make a few more.

You will find in electronics parts stores some little reed switches that you can put inside a remote. They (in Spain) are only half an euro or the like. I can give you advice on the way to modify our remote if you want. And, althought I sell my own software to control shows a thing I can say is Winamp is a very powerful software to work with. My initial setup was a laptop with Winamp, a plugin to see the current track name in a very big font and a remote. In the playlist you can setup volumes for every track. You can also setup it to stop after every track. "silence" tracks are created in minutes with free software as Audacity, for instance. You can see... Winamp really has everything you need to work. But... I (and my customers) prefer a more powerfull software able to do all this but in a more professional environment, with a powerfull database to store your shows, the ability to project video and still image, space for annotations, light control, ... You choose. The free route is very powerfull, customizable, sure (not a single problem when working with Winamp) but some of us prefer other options. |

Wow this is one long topic. I am new here and I am not a performer but I do design and run sound and lighting for Churches, Magicians, Hypnotist, ... and for the meduim size performances (100 - 1000 people) I use the Digiselect product mentioned earlier. It really was a great product for the price and simplifies my role in coordinating between sound, Video, lighting and effects. Just my two cents

Kipley,
Maybe you can help me. I bought my iQue2 in Dec 08 just before they went out of business. When I received my unit the remote control had a short in the battery clip. I had to move the battery around to get it to work. I took it to an electronics shop and had the remote fixed. But they did something to it that the iQue2 unit now doesn't sync the iPod, the blue like doesn't come on and nothing happens. The iQue2 seems to be receiving the signal because the lights run all the way when a button is pressed. I did notice that when I plug the power in the P9 is displayed then the GREEN light remains on. This would normally indicate that it is in Walkman Mode, but I don't have a Walkman wire coming out. Pattie said they stopped putting that wire on them over a year or two ago. How do I get it to switch to Ipod or recognize the Ipod to run the sync start up? Thanks for any help you can give me. |

I'm kind of new here (but not to sound gear), and kind of partial to "cheap", what does anyone think of the following link and idea?
"Personal soundtrack shirt" http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/interactive/a5bf/ Ditch the shirt and its cheap speaker, pad the output down with a volume control from Radio Shack and feed it into a wireless mic system like a Shure PG14. Now the performer can walk around with the unit in his pocket and command sound fx as the situation demands, just gotta burn up to 20 MP3 files into an SD card first. Any comments? (Haven't tried it yet, just brainstorming) |

That should work, it would give you random access to a bunch of tracks pretty inexpensively. There was a video I saw about a year ago where a Japanese performer had a system like this, he used it in a mime routine where he interacted with various props and they made noises. It would be a great solution for any routines where you want to be able to improvise.

Jeff THANKS. That's exactly what I was thinking about, improvising - like when you've got volunteers on stage (or hecklers in the audience)! Could also be useful in "blocking out" new material, pairing up effects with a limited selection of songs (doesn't kill your concentration as much to "push a button" as it does to scroll through endless directories on your PC or iPod). Also if you've ever watched Jim Cramer's "Mad Money", especially one of his live shows at the schools, you can see how useful it is for him to have that soundboard available to leverage his performance (although admittedly he does derive some portion of the "theater" in his presentation from whacking away at those VERY visible oversized buttons). My final point is that $30 isn't a great deal of expense for s "system" to do all this, especially if you've already got the wireless part.
