I was given a nice wooden wand with brass tips for the holidays and am looking for tricks and sleights that use it. I only know the strike vanish and the 'snap vanish of a wand.'
If anyone knows of any good books on wand magic, I'd truly appreciate the help. Thanks in adavanced and Happy Holidays!!

Flip Sticks by Flip Helena (SIC?) is the snap vanish plus lots more. It's great, but I don't know where it's published.

If you're a flourishy kind of guy, learn a good wand spin.

The wand's primary use is as an aid in deceptively palming an object - - it's a lot easier to hide something in your hand when it's holding something else, a wand in this case, and so it's frequently used in coin, sponge ball, and cup and ball routines.

Take a look at Williamson's "Money Talks" routine in his book. It is an awesome routine perfect for stand-up or walk around.

What the heck is the snap vanish???

cylinder and coins
cups and balls

others can be found in
Kenner Out of Control
Williamson's Wonders

Both excellent books!

.... and I finally have them. Woo hoo!!

Seriously, David Williamson seems like the wand master to me. He's come up with great ideas with a wand.

Larry D.,

Flip's last name is Hallema. To see him perform "Flipstick" is quite amazing.

CSStanton,

Get his book and practice a lot. You'll have something that few people are doing.

Frank,

If you saw Cellini lecture, you problem saw his wand vanish. The "snap vanish" referred to is the one he uses before reproducing the wand from the coin purse.

CSStanton,

You could produce the wand from a coin purse, purse frame, or whatever other item seems practical and convenient for your presentation after vanishing it. There are quite a few uses for a wand in cups and balls routines. You might check Ammar's books for some ideas.

Michael Ammar's Cups and Balls videos. He shows you many ways to use the wand. It makes a great misdirection tool.

You could also use it for ring n wand routines. There is a good one in the Books of Wonder by Tommy Wonder. I generally use a ring on wand routine as a lead in to my nest of boxes.

You could also check out Kevin James' lecture video. He has a couple nice things that you could do with a "wand" or a flip stick, or a dagger as he likes to use.

Just a thought, might be of interest, plus you also learn how to rip the head off of a duck.

Corey - rip a head off a duck? With a wand? I'd rather beat it off!! Hahahaha.
Thanks for all the help for everyone. I'll take a look at those.

What about a watch-steal using a wand. I read about that somewhere, anyone know any material on it?

Million thanks

John George has a flip-stick routine on his close-up magic tape.
