I originally posted this on my first blog, and it is still posted there. I thought I would share it here at The Café as well. I hope you enjoy this short presentation. Just the story alone has proven powerful enough without me having to fold any cranes whatsoever, but the added bonus of an origami crane at the end is a nice touch. I hope people will resist the temptation to turn this into a "blood appears on my finger and heals" stigmata trick, which is where it COULD go but I don't think it is where it SHOULD go. This is a tragedy and to mix it up with shock magic is a mistake, in my opinion that would detract from the story and make the effect overshadow everything.
"FOLDING FOR LOVE" by Dale A. Hildebrandt You might find the following story useful when folding origami cranes. There was a man who was smitten with love for a certain woman. All day and all night, all he could think about was her. She was on his mind and in his heart. But this wasn't his only love, for he also loved to make origami models. He knew about a certain legend. It was rumored that if you folded 1,000 cranes you would get your wish. He had only one wish. He wanted her love in return. So, he sat down in his parlor and started folding. Days and nights passed by, melting into one another. He started to refuse meals, so that he could work on folding the cranes, and get his wish as soon as possible. The day finally came when he was to fold the last crane. He began to fold, and as he folded, he slowly nicked himself on the paper. He had received a paper cut. Without thinking, he looked down at his bleeding finger and said "I wish that hadn't happened". In front of his eyes, the paper cut disappeared. He slowly realized what he had just done. Sincerely, Dale A. Hildebrandt |
