Hey Guys,

Any thoughts on (a) whether this is actually "street magic" performed in the middle of a normal Frisbee session or just edited to appear this way and (b) how it could be done street style (or where to get info on that)?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=jSf6FQ273gQ

Thanks,
-Ananda

I doubt he needs edits for this one.

(a)A lot of Criss' magic is stage magic adapted for outdoor presentations. Having said that,
(b)I don't believe you can do this "street style" in public.

I ask because the person with the red shirt (under dark jacket) apparently is behind him in one sequence and then catches the Frisbee off to the left (after the edit?).

Have you ever played with a Frisbee? When you miss it does it land a few feet behind you (and off camera for Criss, wow lucky!)? Or does it float 10 feet away and then roll even further?

I'm not saying edits weren't used. That's common to main continuity for television. What I was basically saying that this did not necessarily require the use of "camera tricks" to accomplish.

If you've seen the movie "Ed Wood" and remember the scene re-creating the shooting of the flying saucers for "Plan 9" you have your answer.

Good point, Joey.

Dave: I understand what you mean. The red shirt seems fishy, but that doesn't necessarily tell us anything about the magic.

Is that a serious suggestion, Randwill? ( I have not seen the movie.)

Thanks,
-Ananda.

I'm pretty sure the way that the saucers are shown being suspended in "Ed Wood" is how they shot that scene for "Mindfreak", so no, you couldn't do it that way as a street performer. It's a TV only trick.

Thanks, Randwill. I'll put my thinking cap back on...

Well almost none of what Criss does could be done real live situation street style. With few exceptions.

Steve I meant actual "busking" but not sure how many would actually know what I meant.

You know, street performing prior to David Blaine.

We're not suppose to come right out and reveal secrets here, at least that's the LINE I usually hear. A lot of people come here FISHING for answers. In fact if you did a POLE, eh, poll, you'd find most people are against exposure. That's certainly my feeling anyway.

I'm not sure if the Café rules apply to things on television that appear to be, what we traditionally call 'magic tricks' but really aren't, so I'll err on the side of caution.

Randwill,

That's REEL cautious of you, indeed. I know I'll never guess what you might have meant. Smile

Best,
-Ananda.
