I can't. I've thought a couple of times about getting this. I'm sure I'll check it out eventually. It would be a good skill to have.
Big thread about it here; http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=3

I don't work with coins at all and so this is the first I've heard of this, yet it sounds fantastic as something to just be able to do. I may have to get this!

I created a fantastic routine that requires exactly this ability.
It involves the whole audience and would fit in a magic, mentalism or con man show. PM for details. |

I have been doing a controlled coin toss since I was a teenager. I learned it in college when we tossed a coin for the "break" when playing pool It was fun to see if the move fooled people....since the break does not give a huge advantage.
I am not sure how to describe it...But, it is VERY old and I have never seen a good description of the move in print. Basically the coin does not flip, it toggles and you spin it. Just catch the coin or let it land on a soft surface (which does not allow the coin to bounce) and you will be OK. You hit 100%. Once you get the knack, you will never forget it...it's like riding a bike

It is in print.I have written a treatise on the controlled coin toss. It is called -- "Heads or Tails."
It sells for 10 bucks and can be purchased from many major magic shops. Several magicians have told me that they learned this within 10 minutes after reading my book. Though not an easy move, it can be mastered with practice. Just as Expertmagician states above "Once you get the knack, you will never forget it...it's like riding a bike." It is a knack. I am very thorough and discuss all the nuances regarding execution, performance strategies and finesses. Impressed with my work on the Controlled Coin Toss, Stanford University mathematician and magician Persi Diaconis (http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2004/june9/diaconis-69.html)met with me out here in Las Vegas to see me perform this and read my first draft of " Heads or Tails." He was very pleased with my toss and explanation and gave me his blessings. I love this coin toss and just wanted to finally have it put in print. If anyone purchases this and has any questions I will be glad to be of assistance. |

It gives you control of the table, a chance to pot the ball and a chance to continue if you can get shape on the first target ball. Then again, if you and your friends are the casual bar room 8-ball player, then running the table would probably not even be a factor.

I've not read Gary's Treatise but I also can do it. But I am interested in reading some of the stratigies that he has come up with.

Can it be done if the coin is allowed to land on the floor?
I ask as that is the thing when guys spin a coin for money.

But, as I'm sure you know, there is no way to control the coin if it actually bounces on the floor. If someone can figure that one out, I'd love to see it!

I agree with Vandy Grift, there is no way to control the coin if it actually bounces on the floor using only sleight of hand.
As a strategy I let the spectator catch the coin in their own hand. This is a great convincer. This is all explained in my pamphlet. I have been receiving a lot of inquiries from magicians wanting to purchase "Heads or Tails" from me. I do not sell it. A quick google search will show you many magic shops that sell it or support the magic dealers that advertise here at the Magic Café and buy it from one of them. |

Hi, I have done this for a long time. After you throw the coins, you catch it on your open right hand (fingers extended). You glimpse quickly if it lands head or tail and: 1- you reverse BOTH your hand and the coin on the back of your left hand, or 2- you reverse ONLY your right hand, the coin remain stationary with the gravity, and it's the hand wich turn around the coin as you smash it on the back of the left hand.
I hope this will serve someone... |

You can also add a touch of super glue to the coin so you can do exactly what Rkull suggests but without looking.

Remember in the method I explain, the spectator can catch the coin after it is tossed. Click- http://www.mandrgames.com/books.htm |
