I went to my local Scouting office and asked if I could have an address list of some area troop leaders so I could mail out my promo packet. They told me they don't give out the names and addresses, but if I would bring in a bunch of them, they would mail them for me and just bill me for the postage. I thought this was pretty good, but then they said that if I wanted to, I could bring in 200 brochures and they would put them into their monthly Round Table mailing packet that goes out to every scout troop in 5 counties, and they would do it for FREE since they were mailing out this monthly packet anyway. All I had to do was bring them in, and they did the rest! What a great marketing opportunity if you do Scout shows! -Jeff

You'll also want to check out Julian Franklin's new website http://www.magicblueandgold.com
For a reasonable fee, you can post your show on his website. He, in turn, advertises the website in the major scouting magazines sending lots of potential scout banquet business your way. Scouting has fallen under a vicious and undeserved rain of criticism these past few years. Many councils have become extremely defensive and protective of their volunteer leaders and members as a result. It's even difficult to request meeting site and sponsor lists due to the bitter harrassment that ensues. As a lifelong Scout and volunteer, I find this organized destruction of a Free-World icon indicative of our nation's sad and slow decline. Your approach sound like a good one. Good luck with it! Skip

One idea is to start attending your local council Scouter meetings. These are open to the public and the schedule and meeting location will be available at your local Council office. The most active Scout Masters will attend these meetings. Get to know them and offer your services.
Also get involved as a volunteer for your local Council. After a few months, you will many opportunites to perform. |

Good one Skip. It is more to my advantage when they chase me instead of me chasing them.

The monthly round tables always include a generous helping of "here's how to do it" demonstrations - volunteer to give a BRIEF presentation at your area council's roundtable: "here's how easy it is to teach Cubs to perform a trick from the 'Cub Scout Magic' book."
