Hello guys and gals,
Since this is 2006 do you think that promo photos such as 8X10 should be in color or stay black and white?

Do you think the promo photos should still be 8X10 or do you think 5X7 would still have the same impact?

What do you think is better, having your name on the front in the lower right corner or just place a sticker on the back with your name and contact information?

Also do you think that times have change and maybe adding what your specialize in below your name? Like adding ‘Corporate Entertainment’ or whatever you do below your name.

Ray,

I think color is the way to go today because it is considerably less expensive than it used to be. That said, black and whites can still be very effective and you will need black and white publicity photos for best reproduction in black & white ads or newspaper articles.

I definitely think an 8 x 10 has a bigger impact than a 5 x 7. For me, most of my photos are transmitted electronically these days and so I can make them whatever size I want in Photoshop.

If you are using photos for publicity, I recommend having your name/logo on the bottom of the front side. (In a large white border.) I wouldn't add your contact information unless you won't be sending them to agents. (Agents hate it when you put your contact info on the promo they are sending out.)

Adding your specialty certainly won't hurt.

I use my logo on everything as it helps me to consistently brand myself through out my marketing materials. I establish the brand and reinforce the brand through using my logo consistently.

Kyle, do you place your logo on front of your photos or on the back with your information?

On the front of the photo. Usually I place a nice white broder around the 8 by 10- and leave extra white space at the bottom. This is where I usually place my logo and it works quite well. Hope this helps.

Before you put your logo on it---understand who is going to be using the photo

Agents and speaker agents will not want your logo on it---just your name.

so if you are planning on getting work from these businesses- then keep your logo off and just have your name.
likewise- keep your contact details off.

If you are printing them out- leave a corner white for an agent to place their details on

On a web site you can have the image on the page and theirfore you can have a B?W and a color photo for people to download.

I have both B&W and color. I include several of each in promotional packets that I send out. I always utilize 8 X 10 with publicity photos - much better impact!

Although I don't have my logo on my pictures, (It's on just about everything else in the packet) I don't see what an agent would have against it being there as long as your logo doesn't incorporate any contact information.

I agree with Lyndel about the logo. As a former agent, I can't see where a logo would be a problem as long as it doesn't include the contact information. When I was an agent, I liked photos with logos on them. They look very professional.
