In another development, Google found us. Try a Google search of "worldwide escape artist relay" and check out the top hits. The WEAR 2007 page is near the top, thanks in part to to "Google bombing," which is done like this:

Whoa! Loads of great stuff happening here. I'm glad you got to me on MySpace, because with all the time I've been spending on school work, I haven't had the time to check more than my messages. I'll get an e-mail to you ASAP.
I'm really looking forward to number two! Dan |

Good to see you back Daniel. You have 13 months to prepare, hope you can make time to do something great. I fully understand what school work can do to a person. (Cliff is working on his masters degree as we speak)

More good news! I just got off the phone with Steve Baker, who will be plugging WEAR 2007 while on the book tour for his forthcoming bio, A Man in Chain. Steve has something very exciting planned, but for now, is keeping his cards close to his chest. Steve has a lot of contacts in the media from his extensive television work, and would like to help performers get local coverage. He has already talked to some of you, and you know who you are. Onward and upward!

I don't have any real media connections, but I have a year to try to make some. Especially if several of us are all at work at, you never know what might happen!

I've been away for a while, unintentionally, but sometimes life pulls us in different directions. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to this... Count me in!

Wolfie,
Sure did. I'm not sure Guinness will like us much. They didn't last time. It's very hard to standardize this event. People all over the world will be doing whatever they want with whatever equipment they choose. It's not like at Cannon's Escape Artist Convention, where they could easily claim the largest number of people in straitjackets in one place at one time. I'll be glad to run the registration web site and handle the verification of escape attempts, but if someone else wants to try to get Guinness to take an interest in us, that would be great. Yours, Paul |

It does not hurt to try. Last time there was not a record to fall back on. They can research last year's one to get a bit more info. I got them passed the initial passing of the idea to which they sent the form. I think that is 1 step closer than last year's. This year they at least sent the form. Just try.

Never give up
Never quit Never curse Never spit Don't throw rocks Don't throw stones Don't hit people Don't break bones You never know if the people at Guinness will change their minds. Can't hurt to try. I am sure David Straitjacket (who is in the several times) wouldn't care one way or the other, but I would love to see my name in that book. P.S. I hope you like my silly poem

This Friday is October 27, which will mark the day exactly one year in advance of the Worldwide Escape Artist Relay 2007. To those of you who have not yet registered, I would like to point out the benefits of doing so promptly. Registration is free, easy to do, and makes it possible for you to get some publicity as one of the early registrants. I will be sending out press releases to magic organizations on Friday to get the word out about WEAR 2007. If you are listed on the registration page, you are adding your name to the already impressive roster of participants who are committed to this project a full year in advance.
Several participants, including me, have listed their escape as TBA. This is fine. As the event approaches and your plans solidify, you can send me an update. If you are a working escape artist, you are probably going to be doing an escape that day anyway. In that case, there is very little additional work for you to be a part of WEAR 2007. If you only do escapes occasionally, WEAR 2007 is a fantastic opportunity to do a publicity escape that is connected to something larger. If you have never done an escape, you have a year to work something up. Please register before Friday if possible! I would like very much to have a strong roster to build interest in the event a full year in advance. Yours, Paul |

Cliff,
I'll be sending a press release to I.B.M. officers, TVPs, and all Rings for which I have contact information. I will also send the release to S.A.M. officers, Regional Representatives, and all Assemblies for which I have contact information. The release will be brief, outlining the nature of the event, and perhaps highlighting in a sentence or two the accomplishments of some of our more high-profile participants. My intent is to generate interest in the event, and start the magic organizations thinking about encouraging participation and coverage. I have enough information from our currently registered participants (or their websites) to write the release. Yours, Paul |
