Those of you who get the digest version of SAMtalk (the email discussion group for the Society of American Magicians) or ring2100 (the email discussion group for the International Brotherhood of Magicians) will see the release in your digest tomorrow. I have also sent emails to the leadership of S.A.M. and I.B.M., the S.A.M. Regional Representatives, and I.B.M. Territorial Vice Presidents.
I received an immediate response from Phil Willmarth, the International President of the I.B.M. and Executive Editor of The Linking Ring. It reads, in part: ____________ THE LINKING RING would be interested in publishing an article with photos after the event, even if it has to be done in two parts. I hope you will put us on the list to receive a write-up (exclusive, please) and photos. Thank you, Phil Willmarth Int'l President Elect Executive Editor/Business Manager THE LINKING RING ________________ Those of you who are active in the International Brotherhood of Magicians have a terrific opportunity to grant exclusive coverage to TLR. Exclusive coverage means that you send them photos or text that you don't send anywhere else. If you are not currently a member of I.B.M., this is a good reason to join. Onward and upward! I have just had an e-mail encounter with TLR regarding a fund raising show my ring is doing next month. The person I delt with seemed quite excited to hear he would be getting a report and pictures from the show. Hopefull the W.E.A.R. II show will get even moe coverage.
Has anyone thought about doing a press release to a newpaper like U.S.A. today? That rag gets given out for free in many major hotels. Just a thought.

What do people think about the idea of getting t-shirts or other apparel printed up with the WEAR logo on them to help promote the event? Custom printed shirts can be inexpensive when bought in bulk. I have attached a version of a T-shirt that I created to see what peoples thoughts are on the idea.

The image looks great, and I love the idea, but then I'm a sucker for a tee-shirt. Truthfully that was suggested last time, and to the best of my knowledge the only tee-shirt that got made for W.E.A.R. was the iron-on one I made. It looked good, but laundry is not kind to iron-on. If perople are into it I am surely on board. I like the idea of black on red too.

Can you folks hold off on the T-shirt a bit? I have been working on another logo. Some folks aren't very fond of the current one. I think that the new logo will address the concerns that people have expressed.
I am also very open to logo submissions from other people. So far, no one has offered one. Yours, Paul |

Would this then qualify as "W.E.A.R.-wear"?

I suggest using http://www.cafepress.com
You upload images and select what type of merchandise (t-shirts, coffee cups, etc.) No pre-order minimums or setup charges. It will then set up a virtual store. You can choose how much over cost you charge for the items. I wouldn't be opposed to adding a couple of dollars to the cost and donating that money to a good charity. I've used them for one-off items in the past and service was excellent. Check them out. |

Hey I am an artist, maybe you (dr wilson) can get together and come up with some designs. And my mother has a degree in graphic arts, while I have (had) a full scholoar ship on drawing. I will start brain storming, but it would be nice to know what is wanted.

OK, artists. Here's the concept. I think that other people should give it a try. Imagine the image of a hand, reaching forward on the left, passing a baton to a hand reaching back on the right. Imagine it as a sort of closeup on the hands at the moment just before the baton is passed in a relay race.
Except that instead of a baton, it's a pair of darbies (or a length of chain, or some other restraint device). This logo would be quite a bit wider than long. Underneath, it says "Worldwide Escape Artist Relay 2007." How's that? Yours, Paul |

You can also order hats, sweatshirts, jackets, etc. The price of the t-shirt, which is a "Hanes beefy T" was $10.32, based on an order of 35. The more you order the cheaper the price. |

I just sent this email to all registered WEAR 2007 participants who have provided me with an email address. If you are registered for WEAR 2007 and did not get the email, I don't have your email address.
If you are not registered for WEAR 2007 and would like to participate, please contact me as soon as possible. This is a good chance for WEAR 2007 participants who are I.B.M. members to get their photo in The Linking Ring. Here is the registration page for WEAR 2007: http://www.ibmring362.org/WEAR2007.html _________________ Dear Friends of the Art of Escape, We have been given a great opportunity for advance publicity for the Worldwide Escape Artist Relay 2007. Phil Willmarth, the International President Elect of the I.B.M. and Executive Editor of The Linking Ring, has expressed a strong interest in an exclusive article and photos. This will increase participation in WEAR 2007. The Linking Ring (TLR) has a circulation of about 13,000 worldwide to an audience of magicians, many of whom perform escapes. I think that TLR is most interested in performers with a connection to an I.B.M. Ring. I would like to invite you to be a part of this coverage. If you are interested, please send me a brief description of your career in escapes and your WEAR escape, if you have more than is presently posted on the WEAR 2007 page. Please also send photos suitable for publication in TLR. You can read their photo guidelines here: http://www.magician.org/TakingPhotos.htm If you are a member of the I.B.M., please let me know the Ring(s) that you are a member of, and let me know if any Ring members who will not be performing an escape will be assisting your escape in any way. I expect that I will get more material than I can use, so I will carefully edit the article for submission, and choose the best photos. I would like to get the article to TLR by the beginning of January, so in order to have a chance to be included, please get me your submission by December 20, 2006. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours, Paul |

Hey Paul,
Have you heard from Guinness yet? In the meantime you should get hold of RHR before the IBM submission and confirm it can/will be recorded as a world record at the republic. Also ask and see if they will honor the previous WEAR event.

RHR has made a tenative gesture in the inclusion of WEAR as a world record event under the specifics of:
"Most Escape Artists Participating in a single event" I know nothing of the particulars and Paul will need to submit the initial forms being the central contact point, before any official word is given. WHAT Does this mean? I would assume that it will require the customary forms, witneses and evidence and that is entirely up to the officials, but one should be prepared. I suspect the certificates may contain the names of all participants, and would likely become the best 'trading card' of modern times, but then again not one thing can be inferred or firmed up until the submission. I may be wrong on the certs as well. All just speculation. Other than that I know nothing. Everything is pending form submission. Please give Paul, your full support in all activities.

OK, folks, it's official. RHR is not interested in WEAR 2007 itself as a record, but participants are of course free to attempt to set or break other escape records during WEAR 2007.
In brighter news, Ripley's "Expect...The Unexpected" book has a paragraph on WEAR 2005. My Chrysalis escape is specifically mentioned. I know the source, due to the mis-spelling of my name: a newspaper article that went online. I had linked to it from my WEAR page. If you participate in WEAR 2007, you have a shot at publicity like this! Each of us should get as much publicity as we can from WEAR 2007. I have some terrific photos submitted to me for the article in The Linking Ring. The rest of you should send me something! I will be writing the article and submitting the photos after December 20, 2006, so there is still a bit of time. Act now! Onward and upward! Yours, Paul ___________ Name: Paul Szauter EMail Address: drwilson@memoryelixir.com Enquiry: I am organizing the Worldwide Escape Artist Relay 2007, scheduled for Saturday, October 27, 2007. The official web page for WEAR 2007 registrants is here: http://www.ibmring362.org/WEAR2007.html We are interested in setting a record for the largest number of escape artists participating in a coordinated performance. The performances will take place all over the world on the same day. If you are interested in allowing us to set this record through RHR, each of the participants will use your witness forms to document their participation. Please let me know if you are willing to consider a record of this kind. If so, we will announce RHR's involvement in an article to be submitted to The Linking Ring in January. I expect that this will have the effect of greatly increasing participation. Thank you very much for your consideration! Yours, Paul ___________ In a message dated 28/11/2006 19:55:39 GMT Standard Time, info@recordholdersrepublic.co.uk writes: Dear Paul, Thank you for your record suggestion. We are sorry to say that we are not interested in this as a RHR record. However we are interested in accepting most escape records set / broken, but we advise to check with us before setting a record. Thank you for your interest. RHR |
