Phil Dalton succeeded in his 'Wrecking Ball' escape.
Due to complications getting an actual wrecking ball, the stunt proceeded using a 400+lb. cluster of concrete blocks. Due to the cold wind, the fire on the rope would not stay lit, and after a few minutes the rope was finally cut. the blocks crushed the box to fragments, but Phil had escaped in time. People took spliners of wood from the crate as souvenirs. I got video of the escape, which I will make available soon. All and all, despite minor difficulties, a very entertaining performance that went over very well with the crowd.

The Legend of Houdini show at the historic Criterion Theatre in Bar Harbor, Maine, went really well. We had three magicians, two belly dancers, two sideshow performers and three escape artists. The escape artists, all registered for WEAR 2007, were:
Aidan Pasha (14). Aidan escaped from thumbcuffs, a wrist tie, chain and padlocks, and a cowl covered with rope, chain and more padlocks. Aidan received thunderous applause and cheers as he escaped to some hard-driving rock music. The torch has been passed! Bodeen Jimmy-Don Baker, The Redneck Escapologist (played by Danny Baker). Bodeen Jimmy-Don was restrained using a great volume of twine. He vowed to escape in less time than it took his assistant, Lurleen, to finish a Moon Pie and an RC cola. He produced a big ol' huntin' knife and cut his way free. Danny Baker has earned his tagline of "Maine's Funniest Magician." The crowd really had fun with this. Dr. Wilson. I put all kidding aside to show a young man what it was to be an escape artist. I put him in a set of handcuffs, gave him the key, and he escaped, to polite applause that I asked for. I then put a Hiatt-Thompson blue box on the cuffs, securing them with a belly chain and padlock. I gave him the key, which of course was useless. I told him to remember the feeling of humiliation that comes from failing to escape, and to realize that the determination never to fail again is the core of what it is to be an escape artist. He then put me in the handcuffs, blue box, and belly chain. Next, we made it more interesting. Six assistants lifted a chain spiderweb constructed of about 75 feet of glittering chain and many padlocks. They displayed the spiderweb, lowered the center of the web over my head, and took turns wrapping the spokes of the web tightly around me, securing it with ten additional padlocks. I escaped in full view, slowly producing a paperclip from my mouth, dropping it into my cupped hands, getting through the first lock, allowing me to get a pick from inside my clothing at my waist. I got through enough of the locks to get the blue box up to my mouth, using my teeth to open it. I shimmed the cuffs, picked two more locks, and the whole nasty mess fell off me with a crash. People told me that it was really beautiful. The six people holding the chain spiderweb completely filled the stage, and the chain gleamed very nicely against my mostly black costume. Good photos and possibly video will be available soon. Congratulations to all WEARiors for lifting the art of escape to a new level in the public eye. The largest coordinated performance by escape artists in history will be hard to top, but I am sure that over the next few weeks we will start to think hard about WEAR 2009. Thanks to all! Yours, Paul |

Five of us escaped successfully last night.
Russel and Laura and I did our Dueling straitjackets, Russell and I argued over who should do the escape, and finally decided both should do it. After that, 14 year old Laura came out and called us both a pair of pikers. She did the escape much faster amid much cheering. Matt did a brilliant Kellar Rope tie and Ilia brought the house down. an 11 year old did a wonderful mail bag escape. This year, most of my show went off without a hitch How did everyone else do?

Speaking of Phil dalton, there is a nice article in the Cincinnati Enquirer about his escape. You can see it at http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a......8/-1/all
Unfortunately I was unable to see it, but I've seen Phil work before, and he is good at working the crowd. Quote: On 2007-10-23 06:37, drwilson wrote: |

The video of Phil Dalton's escape is too large for YouTube.
(any thoughts?)

I just recieved my first footage from Simon Heart (UD SJ). A few have sent me to a third party website to download their footage which isn't working too well SO here is what I can use for the WEAR movie - VHS, mini Dv, or a DVD in the following formats : Quicktime movie or a medium quality, to preferably a high quality Mpeg 4
please send to Jay Leslie House Of Enchantment, 7611 Slater Avenue, unit A, Huntington Beash CA 92647 USA I will construct the movie from the footage sent in. I think an aproximate 2 week deadline is enough time. The rules are simple. I can show the footage on one of my upcoming escape DVDs, yet to be announced and anyone may download the movie I put on the internet but you can not sell or transfer the footage to any broadcast or commercial medium. You may share the free footage with anyone, to show that you were part of the event. Cliff... Im waiting. Hay Did you post the "trailer" for the convention yet?

Hi, On Saturday 27th Oct Simon Hart from Australia got coverage of his strait jacket escape. The reporter told of how it was apart of WEAR and that escapes were going to be happening in relay all around the world and ending in Las Vegus. No other footage of escape from around the world was shown but at least it was mentioned.
