Not sure if this belongs here or not, but since she has been on TV this is where I will start. It was a long tim ago when I watched one the Magic Specials on TV and I first saw her perform some card magic. The last part of her act she started pulling cards out of the air one by one. It was great! Then, more started coming and at a faster rate, then faster and finally they were just shooting all over the place, hundreds of them. I was actually disgusted at this point, she had her arms out in front of her, wrists bent and obvilously the cards no longer were being plucked out of thin air but rather shot out. Maybe I am wrong and it was some fancy finger flicking work and that it was not a gimick in her sleeve like it looked. Has anyone seen this act or perform the shooting cards?

What brought this out was someone else's link to stephensmagic.com on Masuda and while I was looking around I saw she is now marketing this effect "Card Shooting Kit (Juliana Chen)". Has anyone else seen someone blow a trick and/or performance from a bad choice like this?

Julia Chen has a method of producing cards where the cards actually DO shoot to the fingertips using just sleight of hand. It is a brilliant production. Other than that, I don't know if she uses something else in conjunction with her production or not. She is a gifted sleight of hand artist, and she can back palm an entire deck.
Magic is an art. I am merely a tour guide.

I have seen this act live, it's not bad. There are some who rave about it but I feel it seems a tad mechanical. And I agree, when she stands there and millions of cards are machine gunning from her hands , it's a little silly.

I have never seen her perform, I have heard she is very good at scaling cards.

I went to a movie one night with Juliana and she cracked open a brand new deck of Bikes and after a little break in time was able to BACK PALM the whole deck.

Her early training as a Chinese Acrobat (she gave up due to a leg injury) taught her how important constant practice and STRENGTH is.... she has both, skill and strength... big time.

Banester - sorry to burst your bubble but there is NOTHING mechanical or gimmicky about what Juliana is doing. Each and every card production in her act is the result of effort, skill, technique and ability. There are no "card shooting" gimmicks...

I've had the privilege of having Juliana as a guest on both my annual tour (doing almost 100 shows in two months) and at a large exhibition in Canada where we did 34 shows in 10 days. She is an incredible performer and an awesome technician.

PLLLLEASEEEE shoot me.

Friend, you're so off base and out of line slagging Juliana you look plain silly.

Take a minute to learn just who she is, and what real magicians think about her, then get back to us.

Lets not jump all over Banester so quickly. He merely stated that Juliana's skills seemed beyond human abilitly and must have been a mechanical gimmick. If I were Juliana I'd be proud that my skills were that good to fool another magician into thinking it HAD to be done by mechanical means.

Best,

Tim

Yep, Juliana's card productions and shooting is all skill - and the same technique in fact. I was lucky enough to attend a lecture by her last weekend (at Blackpool) where she taught everyone there how to do it.

A video of her performance on the world's greatest magic can be seen here:-

I Bought her instructional DVD "Juliana Chen's Original Card Shooting video" about two years ago. It's great since she teaches in very good detail her technique to accomplish these card productions.

Thanks Tim. To the folks I may have insulted, I will go seek medical help and have my eyes examined! After reviewing Juliana on what I could find on youtube, I can not and should not have used her name since I could not 100% identify the performer. I saw the kit she was selling or was marketed in her name and that is what popped into my memory about the TV special. The performances I found on youtube are not like the one I saw in refering to the card shooting. The one I saw the performers hand was bent over like spider mans and cards were flying like someone just did 52 card pickup with 300 cards. So let me again apologize for needlessly bringing someones name into it.

The fact that Pete Biro went to a movie with her and spent the movie watching her and not the movie speaks volumes to this lady's many charms and talents.

The last time I saw Juliana she was very tearful. It was just after her standing ovation at the Gala Show at Blackpool. Although she had appeared a few years previously for some reason she felt more emotional about the 2007 show.

She's an absolute sweetheart with stunning skills.
