I was visiting NYC when this terrible tragedy happened. I'm also a NYC native and I wanted to know your opinions.
1. Should the city rebuild the towers or 2. Should they leave this as a memorial site. I say rebuild the towers even bigger than they were and they should be the tallest buildings in the world.. vinny |

I vote for replacing them with more modest buildings. The age of the skyscraper is pretty much dead and there is little reason to build buildings much over 80 or so stories these days. You lose too much valueable floor space to elevators in mammoth office towers.
There should of course be a memorial of some kind incorporated into the new complex but to set aside the whole site as a memorial would be viewed as impractical by many

I think they should not replace them. I use the word replace rather than rebuild because you can't "rebuild" the lives of those lost. A memorial built into an office building could never show the grief experinecd on that day. I think the whole lot should be turned into an open park/garden or something similar that is a complate memorial to the entire tragedy.
On the other hand, you have different fingers.

I agree. Park or garden. Then again I'm from
Washington state, so my opinion matters little.

. . . and my opinion will probably be only worth a tiny fraction of Washington State opinion! But there were so many bodies unaccounted for. To me this means they were compressed into liquid or slurry - and probably partially went down the drains or evaporated over the ensuing months into the atmosphere. In the UK the home of murderer Fred West was demolished and made into a memorial garden to his victims. This pales into insignificance compared to 9/11. Who needs to 'prove' anything against these people who committed these acts? A memorial would be in memory of those who died, not those who perpetrated the deed!

My opinion would be to rebuild at least to the original height, if not higher. Why? Because now a group of ruthless cowards can always and forever point to the empty space and say "we did that, we changed the landscape." We cannot let a group of terrorists have their say on how OUR horizon looks, because by doing so we let their twisted logic get more airplay than it ever deserved.
Of course have a memorial, but rebuild the towers. |

Just rebuild! dosn't matter what, we just need to show that we are stronger than this and we as nation will go on. I do beleive there should be a memorial in memory of them who lost their lifes.

It doesn't matter if the general public wants it to be rebuilt, because the land is MUCH MUCH to valuable to just put a memorial. I say rebuild an office building with a memorial and magic store on the main floor.

Rebuild I say. We need to get a backbone in western civilisation. As a group we are weak, undecisive and divided. (Sorry if that offends anyone). We need to be united and strong against these terrorists and prove to them that they don't actually make as much difference as they would like to.
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are

They should rebuild the towers and place a wall like the Viet Nam Memorial around the towers with all of the names of the dead along with the people who helped in the rescue and recovery.
