WoW, I just recieved my set of half dollars from Mr. Lassen. There are so many things that can be done with this set that my mind is going crazy...LOL The quality is the best I have seen in a set of coins. I highly recommend them.

Yeah, he makes excellent coin gaffs. I think there is another post about the "triple threat" effect somewhere else.

Half dollars? or Morgans? I didn't think they came in half dollar coinage.

Lassen is selling half dollar TTs on Ebay (walking and soon 64 Kennedy). They look nice, but you can buy the dollar versions for about 20 bucks more.

Yes this is the half dollar set, the ones on ebay are the first batch and the price went higher because of bids from what I saw. I am not sure what Todd is going to sell them for I bought a bunch of items at the same time so I don't recall what I paid for just the triple threat but I assure you it wasn't 20 bucks less than the dollar size. I think I would guess around 50 to 80 bucks less than the dollar size. This is a tight set I have played with the dollar sized ones when Todd sold me the half set and they are both a piece of art. Either way it is personal preference if you want to use halfs or dollars. I would suggest contact Todd direct and get the information from him.
I just checked his opening bid for them was 275 that includes hoosers notes with it. That was the opening bid but since this is new people wanted it so it closed at 311. That sounds fair and right to me as for the price. Well worth every penny if that is what he is going to sell them for. |

The price for a pristine set of soft morgans is $350...thats $19 more by my calculations. I agree that Todd's coins are very nice and worth the money, regardless of size, but if you don't already have a Triple Threat, you might just consider starting with the dollar size. |

My point is that he has not put these up on his site yet, he put a few on ebay they sold for 331 and the listing I looked at was 311 either way that is no reflection on how much he is going to sell these for this is a reflection of how much people want them in halfs. As for getting dollar size wouldn't that make sense if you use dollars? I bought my triple threat for a reason I use half dollars for a reason when I use them so it really depends on who and why they are going to use them. I just spoke to Todd about the price of these and he said he thinks 275 which is 75 less then the dollar size.

I have the Morgan Triple Threat Set which I bought a while ago because the cost was $300. I like the routines in the Troy Hoosier lecture notes, but I would like to see some other work. Does anybody know if anything has been published - dvd or book?

I saw Troy Hooser perform several tricks with the Triple Threat Set earlier this year and it was amazing. However, I am not going to purchase this item until they come out with a DVD. I don't know if there is a DVD in the works... I just learn easier with one.

This is the greatest coin gaff ever.. As for the half or dollar size I guess there is no wrong or right, although for me I think the dollr is better since if your going to spend $350 ona trick you want it to be as visual as possible. I look forward to the day I own every gimmick todd makes....getting there slowly but surely.
Mr mike: I wouldn't personally worry about the dvd, as soon as you get the gimmick, you'l realise that this has so many applications. even a basic three coin production and vanish looks superb |

Bringing back this old thread.....
Has anyone else picked up the 1/2 dollar Triple Threat sets? If so, are they as "tight" as the $1 sets? In particular, I'd like to know if the nested set can be handled freely, knuckle rolled, etc., without making any noise. Thanks, Mike |

I have the 3cm by jamie schoolcraft and must say that these coins are beautiful.
Not only that ,he is one of the most pleasant guys around, his turnaround is really quick and he always gets back in touch when ever you email him. My 3cm is done in 64 kennedy's and the remilling is awesome they look like they have come from the mint,if you are not happy with anything then jamie will sort it for you at no extra cost ,well that's what he did for me and also gave me an extra couple of reg 64s cause he was out of town when my coins arrived for a fine tune up,you coulden't ask for a better service ,thats why I'll always go to jamie for my coins. And as for the review saying the 3cm is "junk" then you do not know what you are talking about, like I say I have the 3cm and it is a work of art I looked at both of the coin guys and went with jamie , these coins will fool you badly and they are super silent and easy enough for a beginner to use. Like I said these are of the highest quality so if you wanted the 3cm in any coinage that jamie does you will not be dissapointed when you recieve them ,that is my personal oppinion and I am glad I got the 3cm over the TT. |

In theory, if the 3CM starts with a regular shell, and the TT starts with an expanded shell, the inside (3rd) coin of the TT will be larger, and more like a regular half dollar, than the 3CM.
Shaun halfdollar - does that make sense with what you see with your 3CM? Thanks, Mike |

I have done business with both gentlemen. They are both excellent. Jamie does respond to orders and emails much more quickly than Todd, but Todd does get back to you. Also, Jamie's turnaround time is much quicker, if that's important to you.
Now, regarding the 3CM and Triple Threat, I have had them both. I found the coins' evolutions to be very interesting. The first Triple Threat I saw from Todd was a VERY long time ago; in fact, before I or anyone had even ever heard of Jamie Schoolcraft. I bought one and was surprised to find it was comprised of a cutdown and re-milled silver dollar, an unexpanded shell and an expanded shell, making up the single coin. Because of that, the final coin, the "single," so to speak was larger than a real silver dollar. It was the size of an expanded coin. For my purpose, I could not use that and asked Todd to make one so the final coin was the same size as a real silver dollar. He did so, and since then, I have seen four more and they have all been as I requested. They are no longer expanded size. The first 3CM I received from Jamie was like the early Triple Threat from Todd. It, too, ended up with a final coin the size of an expanded coin. His coin, even though the smallest coin was thinner, the entire set was thicker than Todd's. I posted a comparison on eBay when I sold it and stated that, frankly, my choice was the Triple Threat. I found the 3CM to be inferior. Also, the final biggest shell on the 3CM did not go all the way over the nested set. And, finally, the 3CM made noise when flipped and caught. Triple Threat did not. So, I sold that coin with all the caveats. Well, again interestingly enough, I just bought a 3CM from a seller right here on the Café about two weeks ago and the coin is beautiful. Now, the shell fits better, more fully over the edge. The nested set is the same size as a regular coin and there is no noise of any kind when you flip and catch it. So, somewhere along the line, improvements have been made and they are, in my estimation, major. Now, I can honestly say that I see little or no difference between the two coins. They both function silently and both can be scrutinized up close. The only remaining difference is the Teflon coating inside Jamie's which Todd's does not have. I, personally, do not like the Teflon. It makes the coins thicker, even if minutely. This is evidenced by the smallest coin of the 3CM, which is still very thin, out of necessity. The Teflon, as I understand it, is there to make the coins more friction-free and silent. Neither is necessary as with a minimum of practice and effort uncoated coins can be just as quiet in the context of a Triple Threat/3CM application. So, in answer to your questions. The workmanship of both men is equally good. Jamie is a bit faster in response and delivery. Deciding on which coin to buy boils down to whether or not you prefer the Teflon. And, maybe whether or not you're in a hurry for it. Hope that helps a little. |
