Hello!
A french magician, Karikalan, who travels a lot in India, post this cool video of Ali ,a pure jadoo-wallah, doing his cups and balls... I really like the way he did, and it recall me the times when I was visiting this incredible country... Here is his version of the egg bag ... Enjoy! |

That was great! We don't get a chance to see Indian magic like that very often. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic - thanks for posting that link. A few touches of Gazzo there...and were those Pete Biro's cups?
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

Thanks, I found fantastic his use of the "parenthèse de l'oubli" (sorry, it's french, I don't know the english translation...I learned this technic in Ascanio's magic)!
And the way he uses all his performing area is a lesson in presence Add to these the gestual importance, and we get unforgettable magic and magician!! |

Nice! Great link and a big thanks for posting it!
I agree with you Lauren, the fellow uses his space well and has good presence! He was very a very engaging individual with a pleasant personality. I liked him (as did his audience) and I enjoyed watching him work . I especially liked how he worked several sections of his audience doing his egg bag. It clearly wasn’t Ken Brooke’s handling of the Malini egg bag being a bit on the risqué side, but clearly his audience enjoyed it (as did I). Cups and balls was a good opener and done well. Counting in a number of languages. Cool! Pete they are very similar to the cups you used to sell. He has a nice four cup routine. Talk about bad angles! He covered them well. I was impressed used English (even apologizing for his poor English, and it was not that poor at all), used a spot of French, attempted some strange egg juggling, used a gourd flute and had snakes! Man he had it all going for him (of course I enjoyed with the woman off camera exclaiming “I hate the snakes!”). His hat lines were very subdued and gentle. Hope he got a big hat! He earned it. Hey I even enjoyed the thunder in the background! It has to be difficult to control a crowd while sitting down.

I'd give my left you know what if I could get my ancient body to sit cross-legged. Amazing how little in the way of moves he used doing the cups. He's great at the gravity load and even tho his "pass" doesn't make real sense (like a retention) it works very well for him.
And I can do without the snakes!

Hello,
Great link. Having lived in India before for some time I never actually had a chance to see a magician while I was there, for over one and a half years. While I was living in Taiwan I met several there who used to work at the large entertainment resorts. I was able to buy a few things from one of them after his contract ended. He told me some of the background of the Indian magicians. In New Dehlia there is a small village of them that have been performing magic for a very long time. They are all Muslims (Ali is a Muslim name)The traditions and routines get passed down from father to son. The ones I met in Taiwan all came from the same place. They are a tight knit group and all entertainment agents in India know about them so this has helped many of them be able to travel to other countries and perform. All the best, JoJo
