Many years ago I purchased around 150 gimmicked decks of cards. Many of them were missing instructions. So as you may have guessed I am interested in finding instructions for an effect called "By Return Mail". It comes with a red back Aviator deck, appears ordinary, also a blue back Aviator deck which also appears ordinary. The only thing I noticed was both decks are set up in the same order front to back. Inside the blue deck is a note which says,
DIRECTIONS: FOLLOW CAREFULLY, Open case, take deck and place it on the table FACE DOWN. Cut to any place in the deck, but DO NOT LOOK at the card you have cut to now, just put it to one side. Now shuffle the bottom half. LOOK AT THE BOTTOM CARD of the half that you put aside.Write down the name of this card on a piece of paper so that you WILL NOT FORGET THE NAME OF THE CARD. Now shuffle this half and place this half FACE-UP ON THE FACE-DOWN PILE. Now shuffle these cards together THOROUGHLY so that when you have finished you will have about half the cards face-up and half face-down, and all completely mixed up. Replace the cards in the case and send them to me by return mail. DO NOT LOSE THE NAME OF YOUR SELECTED CARD as I will disclose it by letter or phone you. That is it, the words thar are capitilized are where they are on the sheet. Anyone know this, it may be an old one? Rennie

The method should be rather obvious, but if it's not.......get the Fulves Book on Charles Jordan.

What thows my theory off is after you look at the bottom card you place it back on the pile and SHUFFLE it...kind of messes with any set-up..Of course maybe I can't see the forest for the trees..Maybe I will have to duplicate the actions with cards in hand...And then I may kick myself.. In case the principle isn't clear to you, go through the procedure with the cards in new deck order. If it still isn't clicking, do it with a stack of index cards numbered 1-52.

I took a deck (in new deck order) and did as described. After the shuffle it was not apparent which card I cut to.. Am I missing something here? Rennie

Try it with index cards numbered 1-52 (or 1-20 to save time).
