In honour of my "Aunt" Frances...

I felt a need to do this, since
there is a thread for men.

So come girls lets have some girl talk!

Yes. Don't let Mai-Ling and Frances down.

Think of how many men Frances got started on the road to magic.

Can I post to this thread too?
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

That would kind of defeat the purpose of the thread.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Girl talk...wow! I hang around with so many guys that I'm not sure I still know how to have "girl talk"!

Re: Frances
I purchased an autographed copy of her book, "You Don't Have to Be Crazy, But It Helps" a few years ago. After her death, I donated it to the local magic club's "museum" such as it is. I wish I would have had a chance to meet her.

Well, I've kind of felt like I was a lesbian trapped inside a mans body........

Yes it was in bad taste, but I am a bad bad man.

Okay, in an attempt to get some "chatter" started, how's this for a discussion point: how many times have we heard a male magician (usually of the teenage years) say "how can I use magic to meet girls?" Flip side of the coin...do female magicians ever use magic to meet men?

I never heard a woman asked that...although that would probably
make a man freak out that a woman have that much ability of
"power"...

its nice to see one other lady respond...such a male dominated
forum! I know there are at least 4 other women that post
regularly here...

I will admit that I haven't been a teenager for quite a few years, but recently, I did use a bit of magic to try and impress a guy. We were actually on friendly terms, I was just wanting to see if I could impress him enough to ask me out. Okay, I'm still old school, I think a guy should do the asking (mainly because every time I've asked, I've gotten turned down). I did a bit I called "under the influence", and it required me to hold his hand while he looked deep into my eyes. The following line was "I'm sure you are wondering what this has to do with the magic trick...actually it has NOTHING to do with the magic trick, it's just the only way I can get a guy to hold my hand and look into my eyes!" He laughed, and when the routine was over, he asked "So, would you like to go out with me sometime?" YES! IT WORKED!! We've gone out a few times since then!

Hmmm well I have never heard a woman say that they used magic to meet a guy, but I suppose it's as much a possibility for a girl as for a guy. Personally, I have never used magic to meet a guy, but I have met guys by playing the piano. I think, in general, talent of any sort will attract people to you.

A Women's Forum? What next, Women's Suffrage? I'm all for equality, but...

That might have also been in poor taste.

I don't know why I ever visit "Food For Thought" as I rarely ever think.

Off of the tips of my fingers as I'm typing, Men's Suffrage is a topic waiting to be born here. Where's Robert Bly? We need a cultural revolution.

Ever since I joined the forum I've been thinking, "they need a forum for women"
Wishful thinking came true! This is such a fantastic thing to see.

Now as far as picking up men using magic... when I was single I did that all the time, but I wasn't a magician.

I'm glad this thread got started then...

I love the last sentence!
I wish I could show off and pick up men with magic,
but I learned to bat my eyes, smile and sit pretty instead.

>>races into the room and apologies for lack of responding sooner.

I wanted to chat about the best motivation for me comes from hearing the words ", you can't do that". Seriously, I'd rather hear those words than "you can do it." Wonder what psychologist would have to say about that? I have nothing to prove to anyone but myself but like to challenge myself and don't really concern myself with what the consensus thinks - I believe I've always followed the beat of a different drummer although fool people into thinking I'm one of the masses.

Last year, I took advantage of the free Home Depot courses on home reno's and after purchasing numerous power tools, took to installing laminate flooring, fixing gutters, painting, spackling, installed sinks, a toilet, and numerous other very boring home projects on my house to increase the value. You get a lot of stares from people who look up to see a female working hard on the roof wearing a pink chiffon blouse. You see the same expressions sometimes from those who see a female magician for the first time.

This year I had an appraiser inspect my home whom commented on the "meticulous work" by the person who did the work on my floors". I said that would be me. He stared incredulously at my small frame and shook his head as if I was joking. "I did the work myself," I continued with the discussion of various home reno terminology looking into his now open mouth". I still don't think he believed me.

Magic is sort of the same way, I think. People assume all sorts of things regarding woman in magic but when it comes down to it - role modeling may be the way to change someones views. We can talk about it but young girls viewing more females in magic will see that goal is attainable for them as well.

Now if I could double lift some Fascia boards then I can puff out my chest and have something worth bragging about! :O)

I'm kind of young and I have noticed more people talk to you and some what a bit of respect when they see anyone really preform because sadly it isn't a really popular hobby around teens my age because everyone is into step and dance but I do have to give them props because I can't dance at all. One of my close guy pals consistently tells me (and I do agree with him) that he would like to see a Male dominated hobby like magic be over taken by women and become a more equal occupation/hobby.

I actually like it the way it is because if there were more women in magic there would be also more competition.
At a magic club the ratio is at least 5 guys per girl which I think is great.
Because guys always like to show off by showing you things and teaching them to you they feel really really smart. Not always but quite often.
You can also see it here on the forum. One girl posts a post and 4 guys in a row respond to it.
I think it is only to the women's (and men's) advantage that there are only a few of us here.
