In 1995 the MGM Grand Launched a massive show / musical which apparently was a magic spectacular costing $40 million! The show was called EFX! Taking you from Merlin, Dragons, King Auther, Houdini to space & time travel.
Unfortunatly it was too expensive to be produced in London and subsequently has been somewhat forgotten. I have the CD or the Original Cast Recording and it's amazing. Any one else heard of this show? Any one actually seen it?

I seem to recall Michael Crawford hurt himself in that show. Did it keep him out for a while? I can't recall if he returned or was replaced.
Makes you wonder what happens to the hardware. Is it broken up or stored? Storage could cost a fortune.

Yeah, I saw it.
If I remember correctly, it was David Cassidy who took over...but it may have been Patrick Cassidy...there was an electric guitar involved. Not quite my generation. In the ongoing battle between spectacle and substance, spectacle had the upper hand here. However, I recall it being well-crafted spectacle, for the most part. I do remember the supporting cast of actor/singers (three or four of them...who may have been lip-syncing to a track) being very talented and under-used. Also, some talented acrobats in the circus number, also not being used to their full potential. I still have the souvenier program, somewhere... -Brian |
