Any good non-mentalism effects out there to do with audience members' cell phone?

You could choose any number of ways to make it vanish.

Check out this Marco Tempest video on YouTube:

Eran,
Thanks for the lead. I PMed him. It looks like it's a mentalism effect, which isn't what I'm looking for, but if it can be presented in another way, maybe I'll look into it. Marco's is cute. Not my kind of thing, but entertaining to watch. Thanks for the link. Any other ideas? |

Some years ago, while watching Bob Newhart interact with a phone, I had the idea (but never acted on it) of having a magicin foul up a trick and get so upset that he decides to call his mother ( a witch) and have her help him save the situation. This could work with virtually any "magician in trouble" trick.
Of course, back in those days, it was all a one-sided conversation, but with today's loud speaker phones, you would actually get to hear "mama" and talk back and forth with her. You might even end with a "sitting on it" card trick. Let's say you did a card trick and made the card disappear, but couldn't get it back, so you give up and move on and that's when you get into real trouble and have to call mama. Then, after mama solves your problem, she says "Is that nice Judy Bascome there?" (or whatever the spectator's name is). You hand the phone to Judy, "Mama wants to talk to you." "Hello, dear. Did my son do that awful trick where you pick a card and then he makes it disappear and can't find it?" "Yes." "I thought so. Well stand up and look on the seat of your chair. You'll find the Jack of Diamonds there. Put Junior back on the phone." and so on.

Hocus Pocus has a new Andrew Mayne trick called Ghostvision that shows images of ghosts on a borrowed cell phone. They also have several other cell phone tricks that can be found by searching for "cell phone" on the website search page.

I purchased an effect from Robert Baxt that is an effect with a cell phone. It is a comedy effect where you borrow a spectator's cell phone that has "supposedly" been ringing throughout the performance, smash the phone and then make it reappear. If you are interested PM me and I can give you more details.

Picture Perfect is great
effect you have a spec pic a card, then return it to the deck. They then hold there hand up as if they had the card and you take a picture of them with your phone, you then show hem the phone pic and they are holding their card.

David Acer has a routine whereby 2 volunteer write down a series of digits, the numbers are added up to create a phone number. This number leads to a magica ending. It is in one of his lecture notes I believe.

Have them choose a forced card. Use their phone to call your assistant. Have your assistant announce their card using the speaker phone.

I think a cool variation would be to lose the card, than out of no where your phone rings (this would need to be planned with your assistant... offstage of course)... have him/her on speaker phone to anouce the whereabouts or the card itself. The whole idea of having your phoen ring is kinda cool...
