Hello everyone,
I just got a bunch of old magic stuff from a friend who inhearited a collection. One of the things I got was a dice trick called ghost spots. It did not come with the instructions and I have NO CLUE how to do this. (I looked on the internet.....to no avail for the creator or the trick itself) So what better place to come and find out who or where I can find instructions for this trick. Any Help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance......

Can you describe the prop? Is it a die with most of the spots colored in only halfway?

Looks like this was put out in the late 50's by Roydon's Magic Co. Here's what was stated in a dealer ad:
"A die is shown and without any covering the spots vanish, to reappear in the performer's pocket. Die may be examined" Other than that, I got nuthin'. -Jim

Larry! I have that one! You KNOW about that one? Wow...I've never bothered with it...it comes with the die you described, plus an ungimmicked die and a pocket mirror.
I've played with it, and it's a cool illusion, albeit angle-y. Gives itself away at the slightest change of perspective... Ideas are MOST welcomed...but I didn't mean to hijack this thread... Carry on! Doug |

Thanks for the responses.
Larry, The props are two die...1 with the 4 5 and 6 spots on it the other three sides are blank. The other die is BLANK. There is a card that I guess would go in your pocket that says: HERE THEY ARE! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (<---these are the spots that vanish I would assume?) . . . . . . . Now don't be a blabber mouth and tell how it was done... JimMaloney, Any idea where I could get instructions for this? ps...is this Jim Maloney from IBM Ring 12? If so I will talk to you at the next meeting about it!

Hey Doug, yup, I saw it more than 30 years ago, and it fooled me badly. I believe that it's a Lubor Fielder effect. It's not very practical, though, because of the angle issue that you mention--spectators need to be looking directly down on the die.
CoolMAgic4U, sorry, but I'm not familiar with that effect. Larry |

I have a set of (3) black ones that have no instructions. One is normal (white spots), one is spots (with no color, just the holes) and the other works like a 4 sided hot rod, if you know what I mean, changing from spots to no spots.
Anybody know what these are? |

I believe the original poster has a die that just has spots on 3 sides--the die is held at the thumb and second finger tips to facilitate revolving so the other 3 (blank) sides will come into view when you wave a hand in front of it-- actually revolving the die to hide the 3 sides with spots and bring the blank sides into view. When you go into the pocket to get the card, you switch the misspotted die for the regular one.
It is not the half-painted gaff where you must look down on the die to see the effect. Julie |
