I had previously posted this review, but the thread wound up being deleted due to some exposure being posted in some of the comments that followed. I'm posting the review again because it got some positive comments and I think potential buyers may benefit from it. Let's try to keep the thread on more of a review line than an exposure one though. Thanks!
I'll start this review by saying, as I have in previous reviews, that I don't give X/10 ratings. I feel they're too subjective. Something that I may feel is a 9/10 may be a 7/10 to someone else, so we'll just skip the whole procedure. Ever since TORN, I've been a fan of DG's. I have most of the material he's released, and everything so far has been very creative and workable. Fraud is no exception. The Effect - As you probably know, a bill is borrowed from a member of the audience, who signs his/her name across the back of the bill. The magician then takes the seal on the bill, covers it with his thumb, and moves the seal across the face of the bill. The bill is then handed back to the audience member to examine, and keep. Method/Performing - The method here is insanely clever. DG is a very smart guy who's brain must be wired differently than most. I don't think I ever would have come up with a method (or an effect) like this one. There is some prep work that will need to be done at home. The DVD ships with a special item to aid in the preparation of the effect. One or two other things are needed as well, but most people already have everything they need at home. I also feel that after you've done your prep once or twice, the process will only get faster and easier. Workability - This is absolutely workable. I feel the effect will likely be best suited to ocassions of "hit and run" magic, where you see the spectator, perform, leave the impossible souvenir, and walk away. It'll also fit well into a set routine. I guess what I'm trying to say is, while you could perform this several times in a short timespan (table-hopping), you'll have to put in a little bit of extra effort to do so. I think the results will be well worth it though. The Teaching - DG is very thorough in going through the effect step by step. He really covers everything you need to know. Final Thoughts - While some may dislike the effect because it is not a fully-impromptu miracle that can be accomplished if someone walks up to you with a bill when you're not expectiing it, I definitely recommend this DVD. It's not only very visual and unique, but it leaves your audience with an impossible souvenir. This situation is great, because it will keep them talking about you and your magic long after the show is over. Though I haven't performed this yet, I can just imagine how strong an impact the effect will have on an audience. Well worth the bit of prep required. I can't wait to go through the steps and start practicing and performing FRAUD. A side note - Don't forget to read the fine print on the back of your DVD case, and explore the DVD for easter eggs!

This is in my opinion the best visual close-up effect of this year, Daniel Garcia has really created something very-magical. I would even go to say that FRAUD is fastly becoming a new-favorite as well, I can't get-enough it's quite AMAZING!

That's interesting, I clicked on the special-features and had to re-click onto the E-Icon before this extra (funny) scene turns-on

Just got the dvd today and I think that this is another great effect. Verrrry devious thinking on the part of DG. Definitley will perform it within the next few days....even though I am Canadian DVD explains everything in detail with absolutley nothing left out, plus it really wasn't that expensive...$24.99. Great buy, will get a great reaction, another hit by DG!
PS: you WILL need your thumbs to perform this effect so make sure you take DG's advice. Hehehe. Chris |

Agreed, this is an awesome effect. Yes there is a switch, but its a great switch in my opinion. It would be fun to try a switch like that just for a bill change!!!
As for all us UK magicians, you can't make this with UK money. And the fact UK notes are worth more than US notes I.e. A US note starts at $1 which is only £0.60ish. A UK note starts at £5 which is about $11, so it costs more for a UK magician to make the note up. Plus, there is hologram seal, so chances are it can't be copied to make it look good. If I was brave enough to waste a quite a bit of money to try and make some up I would, as I think the effect is worth it, but I would rather put my notes to better things. |

Just one more point on this that I forgot to mention before:
After people see the effect, it is natural for them to try to think about the method...ie/ "How could he have possibly done that". In my opinion, I cannot see a person thinking of this method. The method makes it close to impossible for them to retrace what "may have happened" because you are SO far ahead of the spectator(s) the whole time. I know this may sound strange because I don't want to give anything away, but people that own the DVD may know what I am talking about. Chris |

Christopher: do you think you will use it with dollars then?, maybe a nice souvenir for the punter? or is that not a workable idea.I like the idea of giving this to them as a gift with my details stamped onto it. Like you said it'd only cost 60p

Paul, it is tempting to make it up in Dollars, I shall have to see. I like the fact if can be borrowed, and then s******* in, so it would be weird with this to just introduce it and then perform it as it would be my bill. So they would think that it was gimmicked in the first place. You could make it up in £5 notes, but that is a little expensive to make the gimmicks up for that, as the holograms are not printed on, but built into the note, so though an excuse about American bills being able to Fraud, I am not sure just taking the note out and doing it will work as well as borrowing it

Thumbs? Can you still do the effect if you have small hands? What about small thumbs?? Thanks

chris311 New user 66 Posts |
Yes of course you can do it with small hands! as far as the thumbs comment is concerned, you'll have to get the dvd to see what he means
