I hope someone can do something about this.

I sent a E-mail to Dean. Maybe someone who see this can help!
I feel bad for Dean.

Holy cow...what a 1960's-looking piece of junk. This is probably the guy who was on the Café a few weeks ago asking if it's alright to build his own!

I sent in a question asking who does the teaching on the DVD and whether it's a ligit dvd or a pirate copy of dean's DVD. I doubt I get a response.

LOL! The seller lives in Greece, has no feedback yet, and is selling a pirated piece of apparatus that is just about the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Because he doesn't disclose the shipping charges, I'm sure this guy plans on really sticking it to the buyer.

How in the world does he expect to sell it?

So far, zero bids, no suprise. I can't imagine any US bidder that would offer the $130 starting bid + unknown shipping costs to an unknown ebay seller.

Unreal, this person has nerves of steel.
A product that is so well known to the magic world and its maker.
Yet someone person has the nerve to do this.
I have one of the original, and still use it a lot.
What is the world coming to.

That piece of !@#%^#$%#$ puts the UG in Ugly! Even if he wasn't ripping off Dean's Box, who would pay that kind of money for such a piece of junk?

He replied to me and told me that a friend made it for him as a gift and that the DVD was of himself showing how the trick works.

I think it's the same box - he's just listed it under another ebay heading. This time he does list the shipping charges, so maybe he's following this thread.

He's using a different user name now, also.

Check out his justifications for selling this poor knock-off...

"Since I have put this box here for sell I keep receiving messages from everyone telling me how wrong I am doing this.I know this is NOT Dean's box. This is just another version of it.I am not a magic dealer I have bought this box myself and just don't need it anymore.I don't see why it is such a big deal to give it to someone else.I don't know who has made this. The world is full of different versions of every magic trick you can imagine.Old ideas are used again and again all the time. But if the whole thing is SO wrong we had better stop buying tricks because everything is a cheap version of something else.Who has originally created the flying table? Why is the internet full of different versions of it?Why isn't anyone complaining about this?Anyway I think I might call Dean himself and tell him about the situation and ask him if I'm allowed to give my inferior box to someone else."

First off, he is SELLING THIS!!! If he was "giving" it to someone then give it to me! I will get out my video cam, soak the box in lighter fluid and burn it. Then send Dean the video for his viewing pleasure.
This guy is a real piece of work.
sheesh!

I think he and Dean have communicated. Basically there's not much that can be done about this guy selling ONE... BUT WHO MADE IT and are they selling quantities?????

Don't forget to roast a hotdog or marshmellow over the flame... Believe it or not, knock off illusions make great flames for roasting!!!

Pete,
I understand anyone making a "one-off-knock-off" ( hey, is that a new term?) but it looks as if another ebay link (posted above) shows multiple units for sale.
It would not be so bad if the builder actually made a noticible change besides the ugly hinges and bad finish....and talked to Dean FIRST before manufacturing them.

Bryan, this does not sound like a good idea. The box looks like it has some stain and clear coat on it. Those fumes could be quite harmful if burned and I would not recommend that in a hot dog.

I think it was originally listed as Dean's Box, then a second listing (or revised one) with a more generic name. But, I would imagine that this could only help Dean's sales if all ripoffs cost this much, and look this bad.
