I've been doing a lot of driving recently so I picked up this booked on CD. 16 hours over 12 discs of pure circus heaven.
Its full of tons of stories, descriptions and exploits of the world's greatest female tiger trainer. It's a fictional autobiography of the real woman and I highly recommend it. It's soon to be a film starring Kate Winslet. |

Fictional autobiography? What the hell is that? It's a novel written in her voice, right? An autobiography is an autobiography or it isn't.

It means it is slightly enhanced or changed.
"the things they carried" is great book and a great example. He changed the names and some of the stories slightly, due to personal reasons, and by request. that's how I see it. I could be wrong. |

"Fictional" means that they can do things with the story, the way they did with "Fur". Diane Arbus and Lionel never crossed paths, nor did Lionel swim away into the ocean at Coney Island. But the scriptwriters made it happen, so it must be true.
Autobiography, of course, is just the opinion of the person who wrote it. Since it isn't objective, it's obviously all a lie. Mabel Stark was an amazing woman. worthy of being called "hero". It'll be interesting to see how they butcher her story.

It's a piece of fiction written in the style of an autobiography.
It is more then just a novel written in her voice as it recognises the medium in which the story is called. The fictional autobiography is a common an legit form of literature. It can be written by the subject or by an author and the subject can be a real or fictional person. You might like to read the following Confessions of A Dangerous Mind (real person with fictional life) Tristram Shandy (fictional person) Moll Flanders (fictional person based on real person) The Hand that Signed the Paper. (fictional person who the author PRETENDED to be) |

Stories? You want stories?
Let me recommend "The Circus in Winter" by Cathy Day. Fiction, yes - but unbelievably well written. This book thunders, and it whispers, and it does both very well. And you can get the hardcover used on Amazon for less than a buck. Also "Fox in the Box, Memoirs of a Carnie Ticket Seller" by K.L. Stone (true memoir). Not as cheap but a fine read. |
