Jamy Ian Swiss's Shattering Illusions book was a really great book. And also Jerry Cestkowski's Encyclopedia of Playing Card Flourishes has kept me very busy and entertained this year.

Best of 2002...I discovered magic about a month and a half ago. Total addiction ever since.
Worst...I screwed up a self-working card trick in my first performance!! (Hugard probably turned over in his grave) Luckily it was for family on Christmas Eve, so they were forgiving. It's alright, because I successfully performed the other 9 effects I attempted. |

Best: Deep Astonishment and Sideswiped.
The worst I purchased this year(don't know when it came out) was UFO, a PK effect with a straight pin. You need to be 6" from it to even see it!

"Worst...I screwed up a self-working card trick in my first performance!!" Which just goes to prove, there really is no such thing as a self working card trick Try looking for a booklet called "Outs Precautions and Challenges" by Charles Hopkins, Darren, and better luck with your future magical performances. I actually buy very little in the way of effects these days, certainly haven't bought any effects I thought were bad or could be classified as "worst". Perhaps my most pleasing prop purchase this year was a £2 shell coin which got me doing a routine I hadn't performed for years. My most pleasurable read in 2002 was re-reading the bound volumes of "The Jinx". What was the most surprising magical event of 2002 for me? The fact I was able to get my new book out on time and ready for the IBM convention at Eastbourne. Paul. |

The best "Daryl's" Ambitious Card routine.
I don't dwell on the bad things so I have no worst (that I can remember). It may not be "the most surprising magic event" but one of the bset is finding "THE MAGIC Café" |

Most surprising magic event for me?: Finding out that after 11 years of children's magic, some stage, and birthday parties that I would start to go into close up magic now.
Best of 2002: I would probably say Healed and Sealed, Andrew Mayne's Shock FX video, Illusionbook, and Mad Mojo book, 7 Deceptions, and Barry Mitchell's Reading is Magic. Worse of 2002?: The only one I can think of right now is Mesika's Floating (Sun)glasses. Wild Levitation is a good effect, just the price I thought was alittle much for what you get. Besides that though, I like it, and both the 2 different levitations it teaches you that you can do, always get good responses. Just my 2 cents.. Mack Magic

Worst 2002 purchase - Gypsy Floss by Alex McLittle...not for use in the real world. Gimmick broke after 2 minutes. A rip off at
$35.00. Best 2002 Purchase - Torched and Restored by Brent Braun...I use this constantly, easy to do, great reactions, and way to cheap at $17. Rich B. |

Best - Scams and Fantasies with Cards - Darwin Ortiz, On The Loose DVD's - Bill Malone
Worst - I got a book and video that I believe is highly overrated (as a matter of fact, it is mind boggling how much praise it is getting). I'll leave it at that because some people will get mad.

Until now it seems that the
GOLDEN RASPBERRY 2002 :righton: goes to...... :spinningcoin: "Coin Matrix 2003" Can somebody give us more details why this one becomes the winner of the "Worst" title? I've just watched the videoclip (at magicsmith). It looked great...but I had a "Deja Vu" feeling (like Neo in "Matrix"...) The same feeling, as I saw the videoclip of Henry Evans "Three Card Monte 2000" for the first time...it looked so clean and so unbelievable... until I got the info that you should never leave you close-up pad at home.. Do we have the similar (practical) problems with this matrix version? On the following page you can see the "worst" trick of 2001.. the title was: "turkey of the year" "Our goal: to warn you about the worst, most unscrupulous, all 'round crummiest trick or magic vendor we've come across and hopefully spare you from getting burned." http://www.sillymagician.com/turkeymonth.htm Magic Chris |

Hmmmmmm,
I'd also go with the Bill Malone DVDs, the Regal DVDs, Ammar DVDs, and Daryl's Encyclopedia of card sleights DVDs. But perhpas my best purchase was a Sony miniDV camcorder to record my practicing and to transfer some magic VHS cassettes to the digital domain. The worst... ? probably the Tenyo effects I bought.
