Does anyone make such a thing? If so, are they also made in Canadian currency?

Well, I am sure you can get these! they make shimmed shells and if you contact Todd Lassen or one of the other guys they should be able to make this for you. In fact one of the most current gaffs has that quality to it.

Hi Rutabaga,

I did email Roy a few months back about this, but no reply. I guess I could try again

Your better off calling Roy I've bought a few things off him and very rarely got responses to emails just to phone calls

For anyone who has the magnetic shell, how much more exposure is on the real coin if any? I would think the magnetic shell would be a little thicker on the inside.

I live in the uk and our 2p coins are magnetic anyway so the expanded shell just looks the same.

I still seem to get plenty of old 1ps & 2ps that aren't 'attractive'
Is it different North of the border?

I just ordered one from Jamie Schoolcraft. Not sure if he makes them in foreign coins but it's worth a shot. Jamie told me that he does not just shim an existing shell. He actually recesses the shim into the shell. Pretty cool.

Hmmm, I guess my next question would be:

If the Twoonie shell (possibly expanded) is magnetic and it was resting over a Loonie (which, apparently, is also magnetic), would a PK ring "take" both away?

My goal is for the Twoonie to "change" to a Loonie.

My guess would be it would take both - think of a chain of paper clips... maybe you'll have to get an unmagnetized loonie made... how crazy is that?! I'd just use a spellbound move and forget the gaffs!

My dad works in a machine shop and he brought me home some 4 thousanths think metal shim stock. I cut a round shape out and glued it in my non magnetic shell and bingo a magnetic shell. This is just my take on it.

David,

From the understanding I had was that the shell needed to be magnetic which could go to say that it was a shell with a magnet in the inside or a shell that was attracted to a magnet. I took the latter. However What I proposed was a steel core shell that would work with a magnetic holdout or other magnetic devices.

Sorry about the confusion!

The newer 2s and 1s are attracted to magnets I think from 1999 onwards. Something to do with the alloy used in the minting. I got mine from Magicbox
