I have a couple different effects using jumbo bikes that I use in my shows.
Audiences always respond well, and the large cards are easy to see, even for the elderly. One of the problems, that I have noticed, is a lack of jumbo size effects. Does anyone have thoughts on this? Are you using any tricks in your act that require the jumbo cards? Also, I think everyone would be interested in knowing about any book that may specialize in effects using jumbo cards. It seems like I may have seen such a book years ago, but I may be mistaken.

I do a number of effects with Jumbo cards:
-10 card poker deal -Out of this World (with 20 cards and 2 assistants) -Dr.Jaks’ Supersonic -Sidewalk Shuffle -Jumbo B’Wave -Rising Cards (Arne) and more. Of course, I don’t do all of these in the same show! _________________ Scott F. Guinn Great Scott! It’s Magic!

Hi Steve,
In my opinion one of the best jumbo card tricks is "The Sidewalk Shuffle". The routine and patter on street cheater demonstration I use is strong and the spectators enjoy everything of it from the start to the end with the big surprising finale! A good place to buy jumbo card tricks is Daytona Magic. They carry many of them. Andre Le Magicien Excuse my french!

I use Jumbo cards (4 of them) for The Lemming Ace Exchange as performed by Simon Lovell.
I’ve also performed the lazy magician,, and Impromptu no-gaff B’wave and believe it or not, a Lie Detector effect with them. They don’t palm very well though, so Las Vegas Leaper has not been too succesful! |

You guys should see the mean Sybil cut that I can do with these and the great Matrix routine followed up by a superb handling of L.J. Invisible Palm, and to close I perform Erdnases Cards up sleeve.

What about the 'McCombical Prediction', not to mention Ken Brooke's 'Nemo Rising Cards'?
Both 'killer' routines with Jumbo cards!

Invisible deck...J.C Wagner's torn and restored card...Card warp...Sidewalk shuffle...Time traveler...my take on a Burger effect where a chosen card ends up with a triangle burned into it.
Those are the ones I have done. You could always do Chicago Openers. JR

Jumbo cards are great for my Mirror Monte (to make a stage size version).
This month’s Linking Ring has a counting/spelling comedy routine that would work well with jumbo cards. And in my Showtime column in the March, 1996 Linking Ring, there is a routine -- Pick A Card, Any Card -- that HAS to be done with a jumbo card. (If you are interested, and can’t find a copy of the magazine, e-mail me privately and I’ll send you the routine). cheers, Peter Marucci |

Wow Steve! This is a "hot" topic!
My favorite jumbo effect has to be, "Stan, Kate and Edith". I particularly like Doc Eason's handling and presentation. The poem is heck to learn, but well worth it!

Almost any card effect can be modified to a jumbo deck.. I have made two that get big responses... Bullet thru selected and signed jumbo card.. and John Bannon’s "Texas Chainsaw Murder Masacre".. (although I do suggest using the el-cheapo’s for both of these effects) Card Warp works well too...
Remember if you can dream it, you can do it! Even Las Vegas Leaper could work! _________________ Diamond Jim Davis "The Cardslinger"

I have used a jumbo Split deck for years, both for childrens shows and stage. It really is a crowd-pleaser.
I also do the 6-Card Repeat using a set made from jumbo cards. Works very well for stage work. I agree that almost any card effect could be transformed to jumbo.....Hey!!! Ya'll got me thinking!!! (Don't do that enough!!) Bengi |

Joe Riding's "The Only Three Card Trick with Four Cards" was designed to be done with jumbo cards and gets very good audience reaction. This effect was the inspiration for Martin Lewis' "Sidewalk Shuffle". I prefer it to "Sidewalk Shuffle" because there are less steps for me to remember.

After viewing Martin Lewis' "Making Magic" I went right out to buy the things necessary for his Switch Card. It's sort of a "throw away" not really strong magic, but humorous.
Have spec select a card, pull jumbo card out of pocket to reveal prediction. "OOPs, wrong card" "Guess I'll have to switch it" which you do by turning over the card and flipping a literal switch on the back side. Flip it over again to reveal the selection. I like it. Scott

Supreme Magic DID once put out a booklet on Jumbo Card Magic. Their catalogues used to have loads of Jumbo card effects, but thankfully for you their company went bust as most of them were derivative c**p. Castle used to do a Jumbo Card act.
There are probably a zillion stacked deck routines you could adapt to a jumbo deck in The James Files. Yes, Joe Riding’s Three Card Trick WAS and still is very good but got overlooked when Ken Brooke who sold it released Sidewalk Shuffle. Both are good routines. William Zavis has a Jumbo version of The Homing Card in his book Divers Deceits, a Goodlife Publication, came across it the other day while doing research for my future book on packet tricks. |

Folks,
If you don't know, Paul is author of the "Mindful Mentalism" books and they are very, very good material. I have the first two and think they are great. He is a pro and knows his stuff, also has some clever and successful friends and contributors. quack |

McCombical Prediction is the best jumbo card effect ever.

The McCombical prediction was once marketed in England as Jumbo Jest by Supreme, but both Ken Brooke and Eddie Burke sold slight variations. One was called Potty Prediction, can’t recall the other. In one of these, the cards shown to be all alike later change to all match the selected card.
It is one of the better jumbo card effects. Copperfield once used, (is using) LP covers instead of playing cards and it was briefly marketed in that form by Don Wayne. Guess CD covers wouldn’t be so visible for stage now.. |

What slight works well with or can be adapted to jumbo cards? I have a deck, but haven’t done anything with it... yet.
Thanks --Kris |
