I am looking for the source of a good non-gimmicked Coins Across routine that would be great for venues where I won't be using a table, and where angles might present a problem. Basically, a good workers routine.
I have been doing Michael Ammar's version from one of his videos, but don't really care much for the ending where the coin drops into the spectator's cupped hands. And I want one that is well constructed to where it does a good job of canceling out the spectator's thoughts about what is happening to each coin.
Would you recommend a good source that would fit my needs.

Michael Ammar does one on his "complete Introduction to Coin Magic" DVD. It looks relatively simple to do (though I havn't tried it yet). Also, if you have access to the IMS videos, Dean Dill does a good looking coins accross. The same (or similar) routine might also appear on his "Coins 2000" video.

"The Travellers" which I believe was a Dai Vernon Routine marketed with 4 Chinese coins is fast, deceptive, and has good angles. After the first two coins travel from the LH to the RH, there is an unexpected surprise where the original two coins in the RH travel back to the LH. I saw Lou Tannen demo this many years ago. I have used it with half dollars and silver dollars. I don't know if it is still available or if it or the move have been published elsewhere.

Try Paul Harris's PDQ II in AOA.

Curtis Kam has a nice 3 coins across that is not gimmicked as the first part of his Beijing Coins Across from "Palms of Steel 2" DVD.

I have a basic question...why are you avoiding the use of a gimmick?

For a nice follow up to coins across you might want to check out Chad Long's notes. He has a routine titled "3 across." I have been using this routine for the last month in my regular work and I must say it REALLY catches them off guard.

Good question. I have recently come across David Roth's Shell Coins Across. It's as clean as it can possibly be: no counting the coins back and forth or anything like that. Plus, you end with the fourth coin joining three in the spectator's hand. You are left palming a shell, but I haven't had anyone suspect I'm using even an extra coin.

So if you decide to use a shell, check this routine out. It's great.

That's a great routine Alex! I'm guessing you use the Spider Vanish for the shell. You've never had anyone suspecting you were holding out? Do you ditch the shell at all or add it back to the coins as you collect them? Cody Fisher (I THINK that's his name) has a great idea for the 3rd coin. He places the first 2 in the spectators palm up hand and then places his palm-down hand over them and drops the classic palmed coin. I think this is a good progression. Comments anyone?

It's an interesting area to visit and contribute to, since you're allowed to discuss methodology there. Check out Hideo Kato's contributions. He's regularly posting some material from a big book he's putting together.

BTW, do you plan on making a video (vhs, mpeg, etc.) of yourself performing some of your material - like the original fingertip coins across?

Larry, I do a gimmicked Coins Across similar to that of the David Roth routine, as Alex commented on. I like it and think it is a great routine. I learned it after seeing what I think is a very similar routine done by Paul Gertner on TV several years back. And I plan to keep it in my repetoir.
For whatever reason, I lean toward the preference of no-gimmick stuff, and would like to have a routine I can do in an impromptu situation, with quarters, half dollars in my pocket, etc.
But I am not a totally no-gimmick guy.

Geoff Latta's standing coins across from Coinmagic is quite nice, there are also two great coins across routines ( one gimmicked) in Carney Knowledge.

Greg Wilson "on the spot" has a coins across with no gimmick. It is the one I use in Resturants. hint>>> G------ pinch

David Stone has a pretty strong routine on his second video. Check it out. It will take some practice, but it looks gooooooood. No gaffs.

Have you considered something using 2n coins? say n=3 for three fly or n=4 for the standard routine.

So long as you don't have a Doug Henning type issue of needing to show your hands empty every ten seconds this can be as magical as you want.

You can use edge grip or Mutabe palm to handle the hold/hide set up and drop the coins out one at a time. The vanishes are not so much a problem as you might imagine once you start working on this.
