Shaweet!
Max Maven traveled from Hollywood to Lake Tahoe. He brought NOTHING but a nice suit. On the way from the airport to the studio, he stopped at a supermarket for less than ten minutes and spent less than ten dollars. Once in his room, he spent less than half an hour preparing, and proceeded to go on stage and do a 50-minute performance of mentalism. * NO Pre-Show Work * NO Stooges * NO Clipboards * NO Nailwriters * NO Playing Cards * NO ESP Cards * NO Billets * NO Wallets * NO Gaffs * NO Gimmicks * NO Special Materials * NO Muscle Reading * NO Hypnotism * NO Threads * NO Mirrors * NO Electronics * NO Rough & Smooth * NO Gilbreath Principle * NO Filler In fact, NOTHING but solid mentalism and great entertainment. Let’s be clear. This is not a cluster of “substitute” stuff to make up for having lost your props. It is a full-length show of top-notch real world material, much of it revealed for the very first time. The complete work, including variations and options, plus discussion of performance structure, scripting segues, audience management, blocking, timing—everything thoroughly explained with an unprecedented degree of detail. Included is the rare “Para-Sight” routine, out of print for over 25 years; copies of the original limited-release manuscript have sold for as much as $400.00 And that’s something! A two-DVD set (with as much content as most three-DVD sets). Running time: 230 minutes, plus Easter Eggs and bonus material. Featuring Eugene Burger, Brandon Combs, Gene Matsuura, Stephen Minch, Jan Rose and Michael Weber. RETAIL- $99.95 I think I might pick this up for Christmas Does anyone happen to know what the Para-Sight routine is? |

This is a great DVD set, you get the choice of watching a short (35 minute set) or the longer version (53 min). There are choices for explanations as well, one based on the 35 minute set and one for the longer in which Max has Eugene Burger, Steve Minch and others help and add their questions and comments. All the material is top notch and can be done like the DVD states on about $10-$15 of material you could pick up at Wal-Mart or Drugstore. Max gives outs and explains a lot of the psychology behind the effects.
This is not just stage magic, you could do most of it in an intimate setting of 10-15 people as well as a group of 100 or more. Very well done with great video and audio. I have not checked out the Easter eggs yet so going back to the tv and DVD Player. |

I just had my first run through of the two DVD's and found them to be extremely well done. A wealth of information on exactly how each presentation was done and how one lead to another. Max's is fantastic at using nothing. You get a history lesson well worth hearing along with a discussion about his presentations. Well worth the money in my opinion. Just love it.

I really like this new offering from Max. The show is wondefful and the explanations are chock full of history. The Michael Weber section is gold. I dig Max's character and perofrmance style, so for me this is a winner.

I just started watching this again tonight. I love the segment with Max and Michael Weber. I did a Café search because I wanted to tell folks about it and didn't remember posting about it. lol. I wish Michael Weber did more of these talks on certain projects. He's so gifted and has a great deal to share.
I didn't realize this came out in 2006. Time is just flying by as I get closer to....the next great adventure. Anyway, there was another thread I found that was fairly long and for some reason it got locked. I think this is a wonderful set, with fantastic work on it. Anyone that has the set care to chat about the it now that some time has gone by? We can talk about likes/dislikes, but let's keep it civil so it doesn't get locked. Chris

I've been watching this set again. Has anyone watched the show with max's audio commentary playing? It's like you're in a room with Max, watching the set and having him comment on it all. His motivation for selecting audience members, his thoughts as they react, his entire thinking process in great detail.
Listening to Max narrate is pure gold for any performer. Chris Kavanagh

A perfectly lovely example of packing 'nothing' & playing big. So pleased to have bought the Nothing dvd set. Max Maven artfully performs mystery transcending human limitations. That's my favorite aspect of Nothing.
Pleased to continue finding that all the world's a stage.

I also enjoyed these, and even if mentalism isn't your bag there is gtreat amount of insignt, audience mangement and clever presentational elements to keep you learning.

This is a very well done series with material that can be done for just about any size group and the whole up to an hour show costs like $20.

This sounds great, and I love Max Maven's performances. The $100 seems very steep though...
