Most interesting, that you came up with that effect! Conradi-Horster (a German dealer and author of great many of magic books) described in his DER MODERNE KARTENKÃœNSTLER (The Modern Card-Magician) in 1896(!) just that effect under the title "Un Billet d'amour".
