I saw a 60 minutes presentation about Thomas Kinkade a few years ago. My mother in law purchased one of his paintings when he was first getting started. He may have even actually painted it himself. The light effect was really beautiful. But about 6 years later, here was this 60 minutes thing. It showed him with a gymnasium full of completed pictures waiting for his signature. He walked along the rows of pictures with a palette and a brush and scribbled a signature on each painting. It was almost like being in line at a David Copperfield autograph session. The difference was that at the DC autograph session, we knew that we were getting the signature of the person who performed the actual show.

I wish my friend Greg Rich, who did some wonderful work for Gibson, had worked for Kinkade. Greg used to do the engraved pearl work on the more recent Gibson Florentine and All-American banjos. He would put homeless people under the bridges in Florence and scenes that I cannot mention here, because the PTB will substitute asterisks for them. You needed a magnifying glass to see them.

BTW, here's a key to what is art and what isn't. If you can order it from Sportsman's Guide, it isn't art. Trust me on this.

Stanley Tang isn't too bright. He obviously didn't look at the current prices of books or DVDs produced by REAL magicians. Anyone stupid enough to get suckered into his product deserves to lose a lot more than just $47.
