I am visiting Washington DC this week. Are there any magic shops I shouldn't miss. that's very small time compared to what I guess I could be doing in DC, but we don't have anything planned for one day and I was hoping to see something that you normally wouldn't see when visiting.

Thanks and cheers,
Ty

Al's is gone. Much lamented, the "greatest demonstrator alive" is out of business.

Barry's in Wheaton, Maryland (hard to find, harder to park) is worth a look.

If you're using the Metro subway system, Barry's is located on the Red Line, Wheaton Maryland stop, about a 25 minute ride from downtown DC. The shop is a short walk from the metro stop. You can visit http://www.barrysmagicshop.com/index-shop.htm for more info on the shop.

I don't have an answer to your question. But your smilie made me think of a great line from the Hitchhiker's series where Arthur screams that he'll go mad! Ford (who's been missing for the last few months) suddenly turns up.

FORD: I went mad for awhile. I thought I was a lemon and kept jumping in and out of a large gin and tonic.

ARTHUR: (paraphrasing) We're on pre-historic Earth! Where did you find a gin and tonic to jump in and out of?

FORD: Ah! I found a large pond that thought it was a gin and tonic!
"There's no time to lose," I heard her say.
"Catch your dreams before they slip away."
"Dying all the time, lose your dreams and you could lose your mind.
Ain't life unkind?"
