So, I've got the 13 steps to mentalism by corinda (an amazing book) and I've been trying some center tear stuff. now when it comes time for me to "check out my goods" I feel like I'm stuck in my pocket for too long opening up the center part. in the book, corinda says to shove your thumb into the middle of it... but it doesn't seem that simple... can anyone PM me and let me know what I should be doing? or should I just practice going faster? thanks

Brian, I think slow, steady and natural is the way to go. With mentalism, unlike magic, you are not doing 'moves'. Often it is a case of magicians guilt, or fear that you will get caught. With the correct presentation, they should not suspect trickery at all, so you can take your time.
I would experiment to find what works for you, however - reread everything Corinda says on the subject, and perhaps try different types of paper, etc. I would thoroughly recommend watching OSterlind's Easy to Master mental miracles DVDs, to see this performed and brought alive, and to see how naturally it can be done. Also, I THOROUGHLY recommend OSterlind's perfect centre tear - both a booklet (which may be out of print), and also on his Mind Mysteries tape, volume 1. This is a slow tear, with nothing to steal away. I hope this helps, Simon |
