Does anybody know the best time to mail to Scout organizations for Blue and Gold banquets? I am thinking VERY soon.

Tim

P.S. Has anybody had any success with Julian Franklin's website? http://magicblueandgold.com Sounds good, but I'd like to hear some success stories first.

I don't think you will hear any success stories about Julian's website, as it is too new.

He has only been advertising in the scouting magazine for a very short period, and has had the website for a very short period. I think it was AFTER the last Blue and Gold period (February 2006) that this all started. It wouldn't be logical to expect any Blue and Gold booking success stories because of the ad / website yet.

Remember, there is a very short window of time to market and book these shows.

Thanks Donald. How small of a window are we talking? Is it too late already? I know they take place in Feb., but I am not sure when people usually book them.

I subscribed to Julian Franklin's cub scout web site last month, and just like always in March I will open my big mouth and voice my opinion, so stay tuned. As far as being too late, I think this is a good time to get their attention.

Yes, I would say this is a good time to market. You will catch some now, some later, etc. Not everyone books early, though.

I booked some of my Christmas shows (for this upcoming Christmas) last year, some in August, some in September (last month), and some in October (right now, this month). A few even call in November or December.

I would expect the same for this type of customer. Some will be early, and some will be late, and some will book at about 60-90 days out, like an average (non-birthday) customer.

Well, I decided to give this a fair trial. It is marketing, after all.
I have had some scout packs that would book me for shows at other times of the year from by B&G marketing. We'll see what happens.

Have a great day!

How do you find the names, address, email addresses of the cub master or commitee chair (aka decision maker) for Blue and Gold Banquets?

There generally is no one in charge, everything gets done at the last minute without any planning at all, and quite often entertainment is an after thought, so finding someone in charge is a shot in the dark. I subscribed the Julian Franklin's cub scout web site, and we will see if they can find me this year.

Is there any way to direct market to them then? And if so, is it too late right now (December 6).

Edd,

I don't know if they'll give you exactly what you're looking for, but you might want to start your search here: http://www.scouting.org/nav/enter.jsp?s=xx&c=lc

You can also go here: http://www.joincubscouting.org/ and click on "find a pack." It'll give you meeting locations, but not contact info...

There is no EASY button here my friend. If there was a list of the home phone number of all the Cub Scout leaders in the USA it would cost you hundreds of dollars to access this list in each county, and once these calls started rolling in to the scout masters they would all have their phone numbers changed.

It is not too late to send stuff out, the banquets aren't untill February. You will have to be satisfied with the cub packs in your area.
GOOD LUCK

I contacted my local scouting office, and asked for an address list to mail to. They woudln't give me the names and addresses, but they told me they send out a monthly mailing to all of the scout masters (called a Round Table), and they offered to put my sales letter and flyer in with their monthly mailing for free! All I had to do was give them a box of 200 of my flyers, and they sent it out to every troop in the 5 county area. I did this in September and again in November, and have gotten 5 bookings so far, with a couple more in the works. It's worth a shot in your area, just find out if your local scouting council does these monthly mailings. Best of luck, Jeff

Don't forget your existing client list.

I mention my Blue & Gold shows in my regular email newsletter to previous customers. I always book several from that. The folks that book you for birthdays and school shows are the same people who organize Blue & Golds! The rest of my shows come from my ad in the local parents magazine and my web site.

Best,
James

I have e-mailed Julian twice requesting information regarding which scouting publications are being advertised in to promote http://www.magicblueandgold.com

I have also requested to see the ad that is being ran.

I think that these are reasonable requests, but I have received no response.

Does anyone know any more information? Has anyone actually seen the "thousands of dollars of advertising" in the scouting magazines?

You have to include the words "Blue and Gold Magic" in your email message or it will be treated like spam, I've been there. The magazine he adveritses in is called "Boys Life". I will be in a better position to answer your questions in March.
