Is this worth the price? These are a little expensive where I buy them. I'm talking the mechanical "spring" ones, not the regular punched ones. Reliable? Thanks.

I've had a Johnson spring type cigarette thru quarter for close to ten years and have no problems. Very well made. I have 2, the last one cost $35.
You should consider getting the Greater Magic DVD on this, it teaches a few great handling's and well worth the $20. |

I think in Carneycopia he mentions a routine where the coin as a real hold drilled in it about 1/8-inch in diameter... then the trick is you can push a LARGER item thru that hole. Takes the heat off the real mothod.

The coin is worth the price if you have a routine. The problem is that cigarettes are not very popular. Trying using a crayon or rolled up bill in place of the cig. I've had mine for a least 12 years and yes it has been very reliable.

That trick was one of the few rationalizations I had for having cigarettes around. I still get tempted. I leave that gaff at home.
I got tired of hearing a room full of people start exaggerated coughing and then being told "I had no idea you smoked". You may want to explore the presentation angle for the crayon etc. Paul Chosse put up a wonderful idea that you may wish to explore. Find his routine or PM him for more details.

The DVD Cig - thru- quarter has routines with crayons and pencils in addition to cigarettes.

I was using that in conjunction with the coins thru but you're right, it certainly can be applied to this, and would make a terrific segue, if I worked on it a bit... Thanks for the reminder! Bic Fat Stik pens are the perfect size for that coin. Also, on Michael Ammar's Magic Castle lecture video (DVD?) he has a presentation where he penetrates the coin with a pencil, pulls it out, then penetrates it again and hands it to the spectator as a souvenir, permanently melded together and examineable.

Dia Hard... beat me to the punch here.. I was going to suggest Ammar's routine as well. No cigarette's. His routine flows and it is a great ending to hand the pencil w/ the coin in a permanitly altered state.
I have had my Johnson coin since Ogg & Ugg crawled out of the cave. That is how old mine is.. I think I paid $22.50 for it at the time. Currently, I am using a Sasco coin. This is a 2 sided showing both heads and tails. The reason Ilike this one is...is the fact..I really have NO heat on the coin after I take the cig or pencil out of the coin as I s-l-o-w-l-y show both sides of the coin at the very end. While my spectaotrs are putting their eyes back in their heads..I get these extra few moments to pick my right time to do a switch out. When they see both sides of the coin... they immediately want to see the pencil.. usually this is my time to make my switch, when their attention is on the pencil or cig. Can anyone tell me if there's a pen that fits "perfectly" into the Johnson quarter. Dai Hard mentions a "Bic Fat Stic" pen. I've never heard of this one, and nothing turned up on the 'net when I googled that name. There are lots of different Bic Stic pens, but none with that name. The Bic Stic pens that I've used with the Johnson quarter are just a shade too thin -- I have to tilt the coin at an angle so that the edge of hole won't show. Other common brands of pens I've tried are too big. Actually, I've started using a rolled-up bill instead, but I would like to use a pen if there is one that is the right size.

I use my holy moly set made using real coins...
I hand out a normal coin for examination, after taking it back I use a de'manche and take it using the other hand... I then use a bic pens ink cartridge and push it throught the coin held in my hand... a spec then holds each end of the pen and I take my hand away to show the coin hanging on the pen... An other way is as above but wrap the coin in paper... mark a hole on it and push the pen or a nail thro it... I then pull out another and go into holy moly... just a thought...
catch you later

Cigarettes are not very popular, and quite expensive these days. I have had a lot of fun using a bic round stic pen, but the gimmicked quarter become very expensive when you forget it's in your pocket, and spend it.

Miky,
The bic round stic ball pen medium is the perfect fit for the johnson quater, you can get ten of those pen for less than 2 bucks. When I do pen through quater, I fallow it by pen through dollar bill using the same Bic pen; I have a version of the pen through bill which I call Bic Wonder, I made them in any color there is, black, blue red etc; just in case you are interested; they are not cheap though, too much work to made them. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Mano. |

I've got the cigarette through quarter but don't use it much. As previously stated, cigarettes aren't that abundant these days and I haven't had much luck using a pen.

I use a bic pen- the type that is made from translucent plastic. I have the guitar version. I also have a method for using my old quarter gimmick when borrowing a new quarter.

Hello,
JTW- I saw that on your TIED DVD. Very nicely done. And it motivates the use of the match box. We have a gaffed coin called "Finger through Toonie. (Roy Kueppers) No need for cigarettes or pens. Same routine, just substitute the cigarette or pen for your ring or baby finger. Push your finger thru the coin and end the routine as per your routine on TIED. Jim |
