Blindsight by Devin Knight sounds like a cleaner version of something I currently perform when working close up and table-hopping. I'd like to hear someone's impression on this. Is the description accurate? How are the angles? Can it be reset between tables? Is it suitable for walk-around (assuming you have somewhere to layout the cards)>
Here's the description from the hocus-pocus.com site: Performer patters that blindsight is the apparent ability to see colors and shapes which cannot be seen. You offer a simple experiment. You introduce 4 ungimmicked colored cards: Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. These in turn are sealed into 4 opaque envelopes and mixed so that the spectator doesn't know which color is in which envelope. You ask him to point to any envelope. Free choice, no magician's force of any kind. You hold it up and ask him what color he thinks is inside. Assume he says Blue. You write "Blue" on the envelope. This is repeated 3 more times with the person freely pointing to any of the remaining envelopes. Each time he states the color he thinks is inside and the performer writes it on the envelope. Performer fans the envelopes out allowing the person to see the names written on each envelope. Magician states he only needs three envelopes for the first part and for the person to remove one envelope and place it off to the side. Let's assume he discards the envelope with the word Yellow written on it. The other three envelopes are opened one at a time, the spectator has correctly guess what colors were in each envelope. This is pretty amazing in itself but the kicker is still to come. Magician says nobody could have known what envelope the spectator would discard off to the side. The spectator, NOT THE MAGICIAN, picks up this envelope and opens it. Of course the correct color card is in it, but wait; there is a slip of paper in it and it reads: "THE YELLOW ENVELOPE WILL BE THE ONE YOU DISCARD!" The magician can then show the other envelopes are empty, in fact all the envelopes can be examined. Here are the facts: NO Two-Sided color cards NO Nailwriters or Boomwriters NO Secret Writing NO Switches NO Sleights of any kind NO One Ahead or One Behind Methods NO Gimmicked Envelopes NO Magnets NOTHING SECRETLY ADDED OR TAKEN AWAY Color Cards are not gimmicked in anyway Only 4 Cards are used. The choices are completely free. As clean as it gets. The handling is designed in such a way that spectators and magicians will be unable to backtrack and discover the method. |

I use this in walk-around all the time, reset can be done as you are walking to the next table. Anyone on the Café who has bought my items can attest that my descriptions are accurate. I will be doing this at MindVention. Some really clever new handlings on some old ideas and greatly improved. I think you will be really please with this. I have a new series of effects based on Psychic-Sight. The first release in this series was Farsight and has been well accepted by the Café.
Blindsight is the second release of the Series. The third release INSIGHT, is scheduled for the first of next year. Regards, Devin |

I have some effects that I love but I have to get off by myself to do the reset which makes them impractical in many situations. There's one last point that I'd like to understand. Can I get you to comment on the angles? How careful do I have to be relative to people wandering up on my sides or behind me? -Wolfgang |

Angles aren't bad, I use this in restaurants all the time. However you can't have someone directly behind you. That is all I am going to say on this.
As far as walk around, you will carry a small stack of envelopes with you. After you are finished you pick up the 4 color cards, put the 4 used envelopes in your pocket and go over to the next table and take 4 more envelopes off the stack and you are ready to repeat. Believe it or not. That is how easy it is to reset. The directions cover in detail the method to reset this in full view while going from one table to another. Devin |

I love the throught and care that went into Farsight so when I saw Devin's name on Bllindsight, I immediately took a look at it (otherwise I probably would have missed this effect). I'm eagerly anticipating seeing Blindsight (reportedly already in the mail on it's way to me from HP). -Wolfgang |

BTW, I've decided to release INSIGHT and Blindsight at the same time. I had planned on waiting till the first of next year. Insight is my version of ANY CARD AT ANY NUMBER. Look for the details on HP in the next day or so. It uses yet a different method from what others have released. With everyone racking their brains out to come up with new methods for ACAAN, I felt it best to release the version I've used for the last 4 years while everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

The blurb say:
“You hold it up and ask him what color he thinks is inside. Assume he says Blue. You write "Blue" on the envelope.” Just one question: Can the spectator clearly see that the performer writes "correct colour" at that moment, or the performer writes "colours" not in field of view of the spectator every times? |

I think (collectively) one has to be careful that by asking endless details about nuances of performances that one doesn't appear to be fishing for methodology by process of elimination...it's NOT cool nor is it a subtle or un-noticed process...it's quite embarassingly obvious actually!
C'mon, enough has been said and the effect is not that expensive...patience, it WILL be reviewed...or you can do as I did, order it on spec in the knowledge that it is intriguing and made by a well known and respected inventor...I'll risk less than $20 on that...or you can just wait a bit. I suspect a (particular) method as do others I'm sure...OF COURSE there is a method...AND?...so what?...let's have a look, enjoy the inventors take on the effect and use what we use.

You're right I'm not going to play 20 question. But let me state right up front and this may puzzle some of you..BUT THERE IS NO MISWRITING AT ANY TIME. That is all I am going to say on that. I think by saying that I've answered a lot of questions. Please guys don't fish for the method, the above should tell you all you need to know.

Devin, I've found your product descriptions very fair - and I appreciate the little details you put in that lets me compare your effects/presentations to similar ideas out there. The effort is definitely noticed.
I'm looking forward to performing to Blind Sight!

Just for the record and I'm basically done answering questions. There is NO DOUBLE WRITING TECHNIQUE, NO Secret Writing and NO Miswriting. That pretty well sums up the other versions. This should be more than enough to help anyone make up their mind, plus the kicker prediction at the end uses a well known technique in a more advanced manner that will fly past people who know the technique. Unless I feel I am really adding new approaches and techniques to old ideas I don't release them.
As most of you know Farsight was a drastic improvement over a Stewart James idea. |

I'd love to review this, but it's been on backorder for a while... apparently there's a problem getting the product to Hocus Pocus.
