Krekin's Thought reading routine. See this live and you will be blown away by the control, the routining, and the cold reading...amazing!

Derren Brown doing a contact mindreading segment in an open-air food market. It was beautiful. And that's followed closely by his confabulation with a blind driver and the dark room blindfolded dangerous walk on planks.
Let's just say I'd probably vote a lot of his stuff as the best I've ever seen. Greg

What Max Maven did with the coin in his live show in LA "Thinking in Person".

Derren Brown's Out Of This World presentation. Perfect example of innovative thinking, although I have a feeling it was Andy Nyman who came up with it.

Hippity hop rabbits... No wait.
I think one of the most 'organic' feeling, and beautiful effects was Derren's orchestra piece - where the thought of tune came together as the orchestra warmed up. Simply stunning. Roger, unfortunately I dodn;t see the show - care to elaborate? Simon |

Flawless muscle reading/contact mindreading leaves me in awe, like the way fellow Dutchman Gerard Croiset practiced it. Or indeed, Derren Brown's presentation at the market hall.
Even if you know the method, it just looks like The Force.

What is Derren's closer?

Derren's closer is a routine where he throws out several copies of that days newspapers and they are all different. One of those people, chosen by someone other than Derren is invited to the stage with his/her newspaper. They are asked to select a page and then a headline and then a word - yep - you guessed it - it matches Derren's 'prediction' which he reveals in an amazing way that simply could not have just been done. What makes this effect is that when you think the show is over, he recaps the entire second half of the show in a small video film with all the 'psychological' goings-on that 'influenced' the outcome. Outrageous!!
write2david above has more detail but, as you can imagine, its a bit detailed to simply type here. I am led to believe that this will be on Channel Four in December. Don't miss it. Why is DB such a clever sod? It's just not fair! |

Well, it's almost inpossible to picking just one. There are so many good routines out there. But if I have to choose, then I just say "Some Total Stage by Larry Becker".

My favorite effect, I'm proud to say, is one of my own.
A prediction (which is honestly in view of the audience during the whole show and is genuinely not tampered with or switched in any way) is sealed and placed in full view. An audience member is selected by me blowing up a balloon and releasing it (kind of hard to control the flight of a balloon) proving that the volunteer is a true volunteer. That volunteer selects another audience member. That audience member goes on stage and without any coaching writes on a large piece of paper (ungimmicked) any four digit number. (In fact they could draw a picture, write down a word, or anything, I've always had them write down a number because I can stretch that out by having them write down 4 single-digit numbers and make it more dramatic.) That volunteer opens the prediction which has been in full view and opens it for all to see and, of course, the prediction matches precisely what was written down. At no time do I (or anyone else for that matter) ever touch the prediction. |

I am not sure if this question means best to watch or best to perform. To perform - Fogel's 'Second Spot' put out by Ken Brooke, to watch - Marc Salem's Blindfold Act.

I have my favorites, but like movies, one may send chills thru one person, but nothing to another. I don't believe there is a best mental effect.
