I was wondering when someone was gonna post about Halloween! I just wish I hadn't left my copy of House of Wax (Vincent Price one, not the recent remake) in Little Rock. Oh well, at least I have my copy of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" Do you know if the Turner Classic Movie channel is having their monster movie day? This is my first halloween with cable in quite a few years.

Margarette, tonight TCM is playing all Vincent Price, just for you. Here's the lineup (times are EST):
8:00 PM Masque Of The Red Death, The 9:45 PM House Of Usher 11:15 PM Abominable Dr. Phibes, The 1:00 AM Diary of a Madman

Margarette, The House of Wax is a GREAT film. It is interesting to see the younger Carolyn Jones (Morticia Addams) and Charles Bronson, too!
Not to hijack the thread, but perhaps people would like to add their favorite "classic" Halloween horror movie to their posts on this thread.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

For movies I am particular to anything by Tim Burton.
I actually just watched a crazy movie called The Devil's Reject by Rob Zombie. It was pretty brutal and disturbing. |

Yeah, it ended up in the top 10 of "30 Scariest Movie Moments."

I remember one year, there were all those old great b&w movies with Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, and Lon Chaney,Jr. shown on Halloween. I will admit, the horror is lost a little bit while watching Dracula when the sun is out. I love all those old genre horror movies. Most young people today would say those movies are lame compared to the slasher movies they put out today, but I'll tell you that Dracula scared the beejeebees out of this gal when she was eight! Margarette,
I'm with you on that. I grew up on old genre horror films, watching the Acri Creature Feature in the Midwest in the late 60's/early 70's. (I was once even chosen as the Creep of the Week, and appeared on the show). A couple years ago I was given a DVD collection, that contained a set for the top 3 Universal Monsters; Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman. Each set has 5 different movies, plus tons of bonus features. I've been a horror movie fan since a young kid, so pretty much anything will get my attention, at least for a while. The newer generation, being desensitized by ultra shock in horror movies would find it hard to appreciate the older stuff, without an ingrained passion for the history behind them. It's nice to understand the progression that these movies have made and the social issues that influenced certain changes. In a way, this parallels magic. Anyone who takes the time to study the chronology carefully, gains a huge respect for what got us to where we are. ~michael
