I go through quite a bit of this stuff. Can it be purchased in bulk for cheaper or from a hardware store?

Someone will know the exact details and tell us soon, but I believe it's a kind of oil...

Do a search here on the Café... there has been discussion of this before. OOM is a product called "cutting oil", used by machinists... not sure where you can get it, but Google can be your friend here too!

Thank goodness Payne beat me to it and saved me from looking like a smart alec (although I would have said it came from swoC).

"OOM– Oil of Milk is about the only thing you can use in a milk effect without staining your device, and a little bottle can cost a large piece of change. Actually, it’s a lubricating oil used in machine shops. Brown by itself, it turns white when water is mixed with it. Good stuff and easily cleaned from your equipment."

found this in Howie Diddits in the secret sessions section here at the Café

Mike,
I am not sure if this is the answer you are looking for.
I have started to 'save' my milk. After the performance I pour the milk back into a large tight fitting jar. . Every once in a while I add a little more milk or replace the whole jar. It seems to work for me.

It is oil, actually SOLUBLE OIL. I don't know what brands, but check "cutting oil".

OOM stands for Oil of Milk. It is water soluble cutting oil. It was first put out by that name by Chet Roth of Ohio.

Exactly, Payne. And if you need a lot of OOM you need a whole DREH of WOCs.

You can also use pine oils, like Pine-Sol, found in among the soaps and detergents in any supermarket.

I was a welder in a steel manufacturing plant while I was going through college and we used it to cool cold roll steel while we were forming and bending it. Personally, I don't like the stuff. It is difficult to clean out of milk pictures. I like soy milk instead. It is easier to clean up.

I have an old milk pitcher (like 45 yrs ago) which is glass and the "secret part" doesn't come out...a real pain to clean. I just bought a small Adams plastic pitcher which is actually very nice and the "secret part" is removable for cleaning. I have been using OOM but the soy milk idea seems good.

Oso2you:

I have one of the old milk pitchers, too. I quit using the OOM because it was "staining" the plastic fake. I've been using soy milk for the past 6 months or so, and it works fine. The only problem is I have to run to the store before every show to buy the milk.

Surprisingly, during my last show, some of the kids yelled out "that's soy milk!" So I guess it's not uncommon and apparently kids can tell it's soy by the color.
