Yes,
Could you please explain the move? I personaly have never heard of it, but would like to learn! Thanks, Corey |

The move can be found in "Spectacle" By Steven Minch.
A card basically vanishes from the face of the deck with no noise, or movement if you can do it well like Dorian. Bill Goodwin applies the change to a card effect in spectacle called "a case of mistaken identity". Anything Bill puts out in print you should seriously study!!! |

Hi guys!
The Coffin change is mainly a modified Cardini Snap Change. Ben Harris also published it in one of his books. However, the move has its roots in a move found in Greater Magic (the Kaufman and Greenberg reprint) and in Vernon's Ultimate Secrets of Card Magic on page 161 where Maurice Rooklyn's top palm is described. Take care, Dorian Rhodell |

So the card must be lifted from the face of the deck? Or does the modification take care of this? Also I've never seen a snap change performed without noise, does the modification take care of this as well?

If I remember correctly, the snapping of the card as the change happens was Marlo's addition to add cover to the noise. You may like to check out The Earick version of the Horace Goldin's Snap Change as it's a very fine version indeed. Or, if you want the ultimate no sound version, just perform the Miracle Change. --Andi

There are 2 diff changes being discussed here. I have seen Dorian do the Coffin Change and it's dead freaking silent. I don't know how on earth he does that so quietly......Sometimes I want to bolt cameras to Dorians wrists so I get every view possible. This guy has more moves and ideas than who knows.
A session with Dorian leaves you dizzy and breathless. I love using the coffin change!! |

Do you know a reference for the miracle change Andi? I haven't heard of that one either.

The Miracle Change is basically the same mechanics as the Snap Change (please don't shout at me card technicans - I'm being extremely vague!) but done a lot slower and with a larger arm movement action. If memory serves me correct, it's a Marlo variation of an old Otiko move.
As for where you'll find it, I can't remember where it was originally published (I'll look it up when I have a minute), but you'll find it on one of the Ackerman videos. --Andi

If I'm not confused (and it's quite possible that I am), the Miracle Change referred to can be found in the first "chapter" of Marlo's RCT series. A chapter aptly titled: "Miracle Card Changes."
The booklet was originally published in 1954. Chris |

I don't see much resemblance between Marlo's Snap Change and the Miracle Card changes from RCT vol. 1, If memory serves, the Snap Change is in Marlo Magazine #2. It's one of the most visual changes of all time in that what is apparently a single card changes visibly into a different card when it is snapped with the index finger. J.C. Wagner demos it on one of his tapes. He also uses his left hand to kill the bad angle on the left side.
Miracle change No. 1 in RCT #1 is done as a card is placed face down on the table. It is not a visual change. There are a couple of other variations but none are visual. It might be interesting to start a thread on visual changes done with what is apparently a single card i.e. no deck involved. I think it's Ross Bertram who has a cool visual change. A friend of mine (Joe Bennet from Michigan) has perfected this visual change. It looks like you simply brush your fingers over the face of a card and it changes. I've got a visual change in which it appears that the card changes as you stroke it's face with your thumb. Any others???? Mike Powers

Lately I've been playing around with the Andrus Change, but just using a double card, and replacing the top card below the other card at the end. It looks OK, although not perfect since it's harder to replace the card under a single card than it is to get it in the centre of the deck. Just something I thought may be interesting. --Andi
