I just ordered a small batch of different decks since I want to try out a few other options than Bicycle or TallyHo. Among these new candidates are the Texan "Palmetto" cards that apparently have been the subject of an entire book, "Secret of the Palmettos" (Intriguing title, isn't it?)
So what I'm wondering is: Should I track down and buy this book? Is the secret a lot more profound and mysterious than the mere fact that the cards are one-way backs or edge-readers (whatever that means. I read it somewhere). This is weighed against the cost of the book and shipping to me in here in Norway, plus import tax, plus a fee for the handling of the import tax. Etc... I love a good secret, but is it worth the price?

Hi,
This is a Jeff Busby publication. It was very interesting and the Palmettos are wonderful cards...perhaps the most beautiful I've seen. Feel great too. Many possibilities. Great detail in the book. Definitely worth having if you like those cards. Good luck, Mark Weinkle |

Thank you for answering!
Looks like the book is only available new here: http://www.magicbookshop.com/product_inf......id=11500 I am wondering however, if this is the original book or just a copy someone has knocked out on a desktop printer. (Which I suppose will do just as well.) Will be around $39 included shipping. I think I will order it... maybe... probably... perhaps... hmmm...

Very clever book, which outlines a unique "built in" marking system in these decks. It also gives tips on how to use the the principle of the system to doctor a few non-Palmetto brands. If you buy from Richard Hatch (H&R Magic, which is the link you posted) you can be assured that this is an original copy. There's also an ebay dealer who sells either just the book, or the book with 2 decks of cards.
Best of luck! |
