Whats up Café,
Can anyone reccommend a good device for levitating a plate? Ideally I want the plate to rise from a chair at my command into the air and onto a table nearby. Any info would be much appreciated. Heavy china, or light plastic? Styrofoam? Paper? The weight of the plate makes a lot of difference in the method.

Im thinking something that looks like a high-quality dinner plate from afar but is really made out of cheap, light plastic.

Have you considered using the tried and true magic stuff that comes on spools?

Nah I'm afraid I'm not familiar with spools. I know of ITRs, spider pens and electronic reels =X would electronic reels work to levitate a light plastic plate from a chair to a table? thanks

Are you familiar with the old stage version of the Floating Ball? That would be more precise than using a reel, electronic or not. Unless, of course, you want the plate to zip up to the tabletop in a hurry.

More precise as in it's more reliable (wont break like IT), or looks more magical when floating it from the the chair to the table. What books/dvds can I pick up to learn the old stage version of the floating ball? thanks

The W.J. Nixon and Theo Bamberg(Okito) version (might as well go to the best source!) is in John Northern Hilliard's "Greater Magic." I'm sure there are other descriptions of the effect in other old books about Okito or old time stage magicians.

Put a light translucent chiffon silk over it and have a Zombie hookup. You could start by using the silk to wipe the plate clean, then drop it over the plate. The gaff could be on the chair hidden by the seat design.
