Find things by Arnold Snyder, pretty much covers it very well. Beat the dealer is old text but quite good.

BJ21.com is a great website to help you start to learn. It has fantastic sources. I am NOT going to recomend any of text other than those mentioned as everyone has an opinion, and I don't want to debate it. Look at the site and you won't be disappointed.

I would also recommend bj21.com as an excellent learning resource. Of course, like Dannydoyle said, everyone will suggest their favorites (and I have no desire to debate it either), but for what it's worth I started with Lawrence Revere's "Playing Blackjack As A Business"... many years ago.

That is not a bad source, even though Revere himself was a bit of an enigma.

Some of that info is dated, bu the book is well worth it. Many pros to this day use his advanced point count system, which I feel is too complicated but does the job.

Don't dilude yourself....while card counting is good. The casinos have taken many counter measures. I used to be a card counter and you can't get the edge that you used to in the late 1970s and 1980s. As I saw casinos take countermeasures I stopped because I kept programming their countermeasures into my computer and my edge kept falling over the years. (I played blackjack to make money...not for fun Smile )

Beware, shuffle machines (even if you don't count cards...shuffle machines hurt the player's odds). Beware dealers who cut off too much of shoe. Beware, of certain shuffling patterns (the casinos have ****yzed shuffle patterns to maximize their odds and to make card counting less effective).

Good luck and enjoy !

PM me I will see if I have an old video on card counting. I have to transfer it to dvd the video is about to die. Its old, but nothing has really changed since its just about counting and getting a team together.

A shuffle machine is not bad.

A "continuous shuffle machine" is bad. These sources will tell the difference.

Video card counting! What do you see?

Man, I had a problem with a black jack dealer the other day. She would deal the cards all over the place and I would grab one with my right hand and reach over for the other with my left and she would yell "you no use two hand! you use one hand!". I finally had enough and told her to deal the dang cards right and I wouldn't have to use two hands to collect them. I say take 'em down!

Steve,

Not that I want to defend the dealer...but, they are instructed to tell players to only use one hand to make it more difficult for a player to switch cards.

She was just enforcing the casino rules :-(

Steve dealers get "paranoid" at times. they get excited if you do it wrong.

Very little experience obviously on their part. It is frustrating as most gamble to relax.

I know the rule but if one card is two feet to my right and the second three feet to my left I'm not gonna stand up and walk around collecting cards. I won five hundred though.

Many casinos in Reno and Carson City will let you touch the cards..most of those games are double deck games where the dealer will hand deal with one deck, while the other deck is in the shufflemaster.
Self concept is destiny..

Except for Poker very few casinos, as a procedural caution, actually let you touch cards with 2 hands. Most have you use one. Most even have you signaling with them, scratching for a hit and tucking for stand. But in general it is one hand. Obviously this has exceptions.

In my hometown in Finland, (Ã…land) you get all the cards face up. Not easy to switch them Smile But I perhaps a lot easier to count? I know nothing about counting cards but I know it would probably be quite possible as they have 6 decks or something like that.

It is a trade off with face up decks.
MOST times (and bear with the generalities guys as blanket statements really are tough to make) when you get them face up it is multiple deck shoes. 4 or more.
Face up makes it a LOT easier to count for the beginner as you see the cards a whole lot longer and it is easier. The trade off is the number of decks in the shoe.

Ive learnt how to count cards as a experement. and yes it does work, over two months I made a mega 70pound profit. I just feel it isn't worth the trouble (unless you have large bankroll and a team)
