I liked the movie but I did not like it as a Bond movie. The new guy does not care who gets hurt as long as he gets his man. British secret service has a lot of explaining to do.

That wasn't a remake. It was based on the first James Bond book by Ian Flemming (I may have spelled something wrong). The book had never been made into a James Bond movie, though Peter Sellers made a comedy based on it that I think was spoofing Bond. So this movie was like the beginning of the whole story. I would hope they would never think of remaking any Bond movie, because they are fine how they are.

I believe there was a remake of Thunderball.

Technically, the Daniel Craig Casino Royale is a remake. The 1967 comedy does count as a "James Bond movie" since it was a theatrical release and featured james Bond...though it was outside of the Broccoli canon. Before that, in 1954, Casino Royale was made into an episode of the Climax Mystery Theater television show; at under an hour, it wasn't quite a "movie."

Yep. That would be Never Say Never Again from the early '80s. Although it did star Sean Connery, it is not a part of the Broccoli canon (along with the first two versions of Casino Royale).

I actually preferred Die Another Day (NOTHING can top the invisible car).

Casino Royale was good. I saw it in the theater. The ending is totally off the hook.

Hi there,

I saw Casino Royale a while ago and it was fantastic! The opening credits were good and I really loved the music!

The torture scene where James is naked made me cringe!!!

The only thing was it seemed to go on for 30mins longer than it should. It should have ended before the whole betrayal bit at the end.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts!

Many thanks

If it's not EON, it's not a Bond film. I quite liked Casino Royale. Definitely brought across the gritty, hands-on Bond of the early Fleming books.

As for Holdem vs. Baccarat, at first it bugged me a little bit, but overall I think it's a minor change to keep it somewhat fresh and relevant for a contemporary audience.

I'll probably be seeing this later tonight. I was horrified to find out that they got Bond playing Texas Hold'em in the movie. Texas Hold'em! Now if memory serves me correctly isn't Bond's game of choice actually Baccarat? That is what they are suppose to be playing in Casino Royal, if I remember correctly? Not the fad that is Texas Hold'em...

Argument was that Baccarat is actually <not> a game of skill, but simple luck. Texas Hold'em is the currently better known game and is actually suspensful.
