***MY PROHIBITION DVD CAME!!!!!*** An unsolicited review by Jim Hynd I was one of the pre orders about 3 months ago and I was really bummed when they pulled the project to make it better. I’m glad they did. Let me tell you that this DVD was well worth the wait!!! I contacted Jeff last week about the status and he said he should receive them on Wednesday and they would go out the following day. I was totally surprised when I went to my mailbox and it was there waiting for me….on Thursday!! THANK YOU JEFF!! I quickly popped it in my computer to watch it and what I saw, I was TOTALLY happy with. By talking to the creators, I pretty much knew how the effect worked but I had a few unanswered questions. These questions were quickly and thoroughly answered on this DVD. Charlie does a great job of teaching all the moves and all the little subtleties that you need to present this little gem. Needless to say, I am TOTALLY happy with my new DVD. Everything from production to explaining the working to all the extras were all top notch. They give you several different methods to perform this. IMHO this DVD is under priced. If I would have paid $35.00 for this, I would have still felt that I got a bargain. I finally had a chance to work on this today between gigs and this looks KILLER!!!! If you are looking for a great effect that that is sure to pack a punch, get this DVD. Just my 2 cents. JIM |

My thoughts exactally. This is SWEET! The DVD was superb, background, music, instruction. This is truely a in your face effect that you will like. You can use plastic bottles and canadian quarters instead of glass. Same quarters, go to a restaurant and get a glass of water, load one and get it into position, the put the other thru the bottom. May get ya a free meal lol. This is a keeper!

Quantum: Not sure you read what he said. He said you can put a coin into a plastic bottle. That bottle can be capped with a plastic cap. You wouldn't be able to put the big plastic cap into the bottle.
Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

Mine arrived 12/22 (Friday)...
I would NEVER have figured out the Cap Trap! I gave it a couple good hours of practice. Man...this IS my favorite. I knew it would be. Friday night I performed it FIVE times...I noticed that it elicits the same verbal response...("Holy Sh--!") almost every time. Then, expressions of disbelief...("That's freakin' IMPOSSIBLE!!!")...So, Christmas Eve I did it for my friend's parents. His Dad was FRIED! His mom just chuckled (she's seen some of my performances before, and writes it off as "magic",LOL). Christmas Day I performed it twice at the Grange Hall (Where my friend's parents' trailer park had dinner served.). These are elderly people. Well, to make a long story shorter, I've been invited back next year! Ha! Great effect. You can do this right in their face (no more ditching the cap behind me). A true impromptu trick! Thanks to Charlie & Co, once again! Doug |

My copy also arrived Fri. This by far my favorite trick to perform. The move is easy to perfect. The teaching is first rate, it covers all the little things needed to make this a true miracle. Some friends came over later that night, and were blown away by this. The best thing about this trick is when they say do it again, I say I really shouldnt be doing this but OK, pour the cap back out, and blow them away again. Even when they know what is coming. They just say what the...
Charlie, thank you for releasing such a wonderful piece of magic. |

I sleeked this discussion out because mine arrived yesterday. When I found this discussion I didn't read it at all. I jumped right in to write my thoughts so I apologize if I'm repeating anything. I just didn't want other posts in this discussion to effect my thoughts on it.
Now, I've been performing Mike Powers cap in bottle for quite some time now with great success. So when I saw what you had to openly do to the cap I was a little bummed at first. But as I watched the rest of the effect and saw how well it looked I changed my mind and realized the logic behind it. So I love the effect because I love visual magic and this fits that. The actual penetration is very visual and clean. It took a little practice. Not because the moves are really hard to do. It's just a matter of learning a move you're not accustomed to yet. That's to be expected. I was able to perform it last night for a few people so it didn't take that long to master. My favorite variation is when you have a spectator hold the bottle as you pop the cap in. What I like about that variation is that you don't need an extra cap. I also love that it happens right in their hand. As soon as the cap penetrates the bottle you just let go and they are holding everything to examine. The DVD is great quality. Very well produced and good quality video. I obviously have no idea how well it sounds but there's one thing I'd like to mention. Charlie Justice must be a great speaker. What I mean by that is I was able to read his lips very well and I could pick up almost every word he said just by reading his lips. I know that won't matter much to any of you but it impressed me. I'll be performing this often. My thoughts are that when I don't have time to set up the other cap in bottle I know. I'll be performing this one. Because of that I'm sure I'll be performing it more often because it doesn't require as much set up. On a side note. I don't have one of the "Special something" yet so I had to make one. He does show a variety of ways to make it so no worries about that. I doubt anyone will have any trouble finding the required. But I did discover a couple other ways and I'll contact Charlie about it as soon as I can find his Email address. Could anyone tell me how to contact him? I highly recommend this. Ron Jaxon |

My biggest speed bump with this is that in the restaurants that I perform at, the guests mostly drink beer poured in a glass. Also, getting the second cap to top the bottle off can be a little tricky as well. Other than that....no problems.
I am anxious to see if anyone has anything negative to say about this DVD. I dare ya...no...I triple dog dare ya.. |

Jim,
Steve, Dougini, Ron, emyers99, Redsixer, martello, Tophie, Joseph, Thank you for the kind comments and reviews. It is extremely rewarding to know that Jeff, James and I have collaborated on a DVD that has been so well received in the magic community. I've read about a dozen PM's and emails from magicians all around that have all expressed their satisfaction in Prohibition and without exception they have all 'thanked' me for releasing it. I'm so glad that a small piece of my magic can now be a part of many of your performances. Feel free to PM or email me if I can answer any questions or help out in any way. My email is in the CONTACT INFO submenu under the Extras link. Have a Happy New Year everyone, peace, charlie |

Charlie, as I have said before and will say again, is one of the nicest guys around; he is a true gentleman with a real heart for people. If it weren’t for him, this product would not exist. The Cap Trap! Effect is as pure visual magic as you can get. Few effects live up to the hype they are given, but this one certainly does. The DVD is clear, concise, and honest. While I like the MTV flash as much as the next person, I felt we all went the right direction with this project; no BS, just clean instruction. Jeff did a wonderful job in post, which is why you guys get such a fantastic product to watch. Make no mistake about it, the real credit goes to Charlie and Jeff and I am grateful to them for allowing us to be apart of the project. I consider both of them to be friends, and that is the real gift I got for Christmas.

Charlie and I have realized that a special place is needed for all you bottle junkies to exchange ideas concerning Prohibition. We've created a forum strictly for Prohibition users. It requires a password to enter. This will keep out the ones looking to fill their daily quota of magic secrets. So go to the second url in my signature and sign up.
Of course you must have the DVD to know the password to enter. When prompted for a password, enter the second word in the second paragraph on the DVD in the contact info for Black's Magic Group. We hope to see you there. Jeff Pierce Magic

There seems to be some misunderstanding with what I wrote about aquiring the password. Let's try again.
Here's the steps to aquire the password. You'll need your Prohibition DVD. 1. From the main Menu click "The Extras". 2. From the Extras Menu click "Contact Info". 3. From the Contact Info Menu click the red box under Black's Magic Group. 4. The second word of the second paragragh will be the password that you'll enter when asked." I hope this clears things up. I recently purchased the DVD and in my opinion Charlie has created an outstanding approach to cap in bottle. His thinking and choreography are top notch. Add my name to his long list of satisfied customers. Great job Charlie!

I just can second most of the posts here.
Since I really love this effect and often use it even in my mentalism shows with GREAT reactions I also wanted to post a few lines. I most often use it as an impromptu coin in bottle effect. Since many of our EURO Coins are magnetic its a great routine for. My routine is with the coin borrowed and signed by the spectator. And at the end the signed coin ends up in the bottle. Absolute best bang for the buck and just as importantly best bang for the effort. There are other, relatively quick tricks, that while effective, require so much prep work that they just don't seem worth it (to me at least). It is also quite difficult to "stroll" with large pre-set type effects. "Fraud" unfortunately is an effect that comes to mind, terrific responses, no complaints at all, but just don't have the energy, especially if planning to do it more than once in an evening. I also have purchased many (I am sure not all) of the other "stuff in bottle" effects and for audience response, practicality in crowded environments, etc. this cannot be beat. In restaurants that serve pre-poured beer. I will go up to the bar, explain my intentions and acquire the necessary props, it is that good. The extra something is a no brainer, buy it.
