I have been getting great audience response from my copy of Sinister, and I'm getting ready to get Reflections as well. I haven't decided yet whether to get the full size or the pocket size version.
It looks like the pages are made of different types of paper in each version. I use Sinister exclusively in shows, but I am probably going to keep Reflections with me on a daily basis. Any suggestions? The size of the standard book doesn't concern me as far as keeping it with me. My only concern would be the 20lb paper in the pocket version vs. the card stock pages on the full size one. How does the 20lb paper hold up with repeated use? Thanks! Paul

The full sized Reflections isn't that much larger than the pocket size but it is just large enough where it won't fit in your shirt pocket. The smaller size certainly seems like it will stand up well but I've only had it a short while. There are two features of the smaller size that make it preferable to me. It is easier to see the ESP signs for the participant and Rick numbered the pages for the memory transfer test so there is almost no way to mess it up. Easy enough to fix on the larger one if that is your preference.

Ok - I just received my "Reflections" earlier today and was impressed by the book/quality/ease and clarity of effect. I feel this is VERY premature, but I had the opportunity to try it out 3 times this evening, and I am astounded at the reactions. They were terrific!
To begin, I ran it by my fiance, who also happens to be my biggest fan and toughest critic simultaneously. She loved it. I had some problems with the Kioku portion, but this was my fault, as I had not yet numbered those pages for my victim's convenience. This was still alright though; the previous revelations and transfers were strong enough! It felt very good performing this, albeit in a loose and irreverant style. We later had some friends over, and I did the test again. This time, I added a pendulum and some Rhine back ESP cards (in the original Duke University box). This made it look and feel very legitimate. My testing cards still have the unique testing info. card among them, detailing how to conduct proper esp tests in the Rhine/Duke U. fashion. So, I went ahead and nailed the experience and emotion proper. This kills! I am surprised at how much information becomes available. Add some CR to the mix (of course) and this quickly reaches miracle class. To receive the symbol, I introduced the ESP cards, as a visual aid for the many random symbols generated throughout the test. With the pendulum, I hovered over each card, and instructed my spectator to simply imagine his chosen design. When we came to it, the pendulum changed directions, and indicated a hit. Indeed it was. This was causing quite a stir! I had fixed the Kioku portion (given, it wasn't broken!), and nailed the specific memory they had re created in mind. My friend, who has seen hundreds of pieces of magic and mentalism, was finished. It was so strong. He just sat there and shook his head and looked at me, blank. "That's incredible. That's incredible." I knew I had a winner. For the last performance, I took the book over to my brother's house. He wasn't there, but his wife was, and I did the test for her and a friend while I waited. This was unique, an opportunity presented itself and I jumped. After correctly feeling and identifying the situation and emotion, I knew her symbol was a star. The friend had only been watching amazed, but I brought her into the routine. I removed 5 esp cards, 1 per symbol, and asked her friend to simply think of one. I instructed my brother's wife to send the mental picture of the symbol to her buddy first, and sure enough, it hit! Thanks to Luke Jermay and his work with ESP tests, this hit even harder! I did not go on to finish with Kioku, it would have been overkill. All in all, this felt like I was really doing that which I claimed. It was perfect. It all flowed so smooth, I just relaxed and went with it, focusing on presentation, which as gabelson pointed out, oozes while conducting the test. I am extremely happy with this. Highest recommendation! I have loved MOAB for quite some time and use it regularly. This has been the best test FOR ME since, and I have worked with quite a few. It does not feel like a book test! It plays and felt to me (during) like a legitimate testing procedure. Since such different info is revealed, it only seems to get stronger as the routine naturally progresses. Also, the fact that the spectator/witness is generating emotions for the test, they become deeply affected and really get into it. It was a release for them as I revealed the emotion, a sign they could let it go. With the happy and positive emotions, I anchored these into the people during performance. The book is way above suspicion, and really seems inconsequential at the end, making it psychologically invisible in many ways. I gave credit to the spectators and their willingness to be open and share their thoughts and emotions with me. Of course, I could not have done it without them! I know I'll be keeping this and using it a lot. For something to get reactions like this in an "off hand" trial run is big. Combine Rick's excellent customer service, fast shipping and well packaged POWERHOUSE effect, and we really cannot go wrong. This could be sold for much more than it's going for. We all know this, I'm sure Outlaw does too. Do I wish it was sold for more? No, I want a few of these. Do I think it is worth more than I paid? Absolutely. Thank you guys! I will post again later next week after I try it out in a paid performance. It seems quick to begin working with it so soon, but it really is superb and I don't see any reason not to include it immediately. -Jerome. P.S. I bashed mine up a bit. Dog eared a page, paper clipped another, jotted some notes down on the inside cover, stuck a post it note in the back. I knocked up the corners, etc. It looks perfect.

How much or how little to use in my view really depends on the audience and the performing situation... but what a great problem to have. Deciding how many features of Reflections to put to use! There aren't many effects that allow you that luxury... I always seem to get more than my money's worth with effects from Outlaw. I own all of their booktests and each has been worth much more to me than the purchase price. Best, Bobby |

But... the Kioku effect is integrated into Reflections, so do you really need to carry the cards as well?

I think I like Kioku in the book more than the cards. I know, same effect, but it seems to work better . . . I feel it is more convincing with the previous tests from the relfections book.
Anyone else? I have had greater reactions performing Kioku from the book. Regards, J.

Just purchased this, haven't used it yet, but I was wondering about the Kioku effect and if it would play better second in the sequence rather than third. I was thinking of saving the symbol reveal (which I would draw at the beginning of the effect and leave sitting face down on the table) for last. I kind of figured the Kioku principle as its a bit more drawn out and less direct might be the one to sandwich in the middle.
But, I'm saying this from speculation as I haven't performed it yet. I'm intereested in what kind of reactions you've had and how the Kioku reaction has differed from the others. |

For me, Kioku is the icing on the cake, a fantastic way to finish. Though more drawn out (barely), it is often the most impressive. There needs to be some by play here . . . it is not intended to be a bang, bang, bang type of effect, from what I have gathered. You are receiving thoughts, designs, memories and emotions. Take the time to RECEIVE. That process is vital.
Also, by finishing with Kioku, you can get the book out of play while finishing the performance. Try it as recommended a few times. It plays rather well as it is. -Jerome.

P.S.
The Kioku memory reveal plays a lot stronger than the symbol duplication/transmission. It becomes personal, impossible. -J.

I have just received Reflections from Outlaw and all I can say is that it is one of the best purchase I have made . I have many of Outlaw products and in my opinion , I like Reflections the most .
It is not just a book test , it is a whole routine integrated into one book , a small pocket book to be exact . I have many book tests , Dynamitez , Economicon , MOAB ...etc ... I can proudly say that is is comparable if not stronger than some of those with a fraction of the price . The 3 routines provided are outstanding and simply mind baffling to the lay person . The book looks so good and innocent and the service I received from OUTLAW was 1st class . I cannot emphasize how good is Reflections just by words alone , you've got to see and use it to get a feeling of what this baby is capable of doing . I highly recommend Reflections to any Mentalist or Magician out there . -David

I think one of the best qualities in Reflections is that it isn't dark, like the other Outlaw books. I love the other ones, their thinking, their hidden deviousness, et al...but they are just too strong to play everywhere, and to everyone. Lots of times, youj just don't wnat to get that dark. I can't use them in the particular venue I play, too many families and kids....along comes Reflections, and the whole thing is bright and happy and playable anywhere.
Many thanks, guys, for giving up another strong winner. THIS is one everyone can use. Can't wait until the next goodies come out. Are they going to resurrect my search for the perfect pad? Or finish it?

I got my Reflections the other day - another great Outlaw product! I was getting some great reactions from Sinister and decided to get this one as well. The learning curve is short, and the book itself looks great. I have already used it in several performances and it knocks the specs over! My only problem is going to be finding spots in my shows for all the excellent effects you guys keep coming up with.

I have performed this several times now and really like it. I think it is stronger than the other Outlaw book tests and I like its appeal to science, rather than the dark impulses of humanity.
The inclusion of Kioku is really nice, as the three phases can build up to an imposible conclusion! Suits me to a T (pun intended). Hats off to Rick for another fab product! |
